³⁶ For what does it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

²⁴ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

³⁴ Nor were any among them lacking: for as many as owned land or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,

²⁷ This is pure and undefiled religion before God the Father: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted by the world.

²¹ Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name cast out devils? and in your name done many miracles? ²³ And then I will declare to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you who work iniquity.

⁶ Now this I say, He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.

¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil: and some, by craving it, have wandered from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

²⁶ For what does it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹⁹ Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal: ²⁰ But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal: ²¹ For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

³⁵ I have shown you in all things, that by labouring in this manner you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words the Lord Jesus himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹⁷ Command those who are rich in this world not to be arrogant, nor to trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly gives us all things to enjoy. ¹⁸ They are to do good, that they may be rich in good works, generous and willing to share; ¹⁹ Laying up for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.
