¹⁶ You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and appointed you to go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: so that whatever you shall ask from the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

⁸ By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so prove to be my disciples.

⁶ Being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.

⁵ For this very reason, give all diligence to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge self-control; and to self-control perseverance; and to perseverance godliness; ⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are in you, and are increasing, they keep you from being either ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he who lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

¹⁴ What does it profit, my brethren, if a man say he has faith, but has not works? can that faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is without clothing, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ And one of you says to him, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled; yet you do not give him the things which are necessary for the body; of what benefit is that? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead, being alone. ¹⁸ But a man may say, You have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. ¹⁹ You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils believe also, and tremble. ²⁰ Do you want to be shown, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² You see that faith was active with his works, and by works was faith made perfect; ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. ²⁵ And in the same way was not Rahab the prostitute justified by works, when she received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ Gentleness, self-control: against such things there is no law.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. ² Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes it, that it may bring forth more fruit. ³ Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no other man has done, they would not have sin: but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this came to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. ²⁶ But when the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me: ²⁷ And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.
