²¹ For prophecy did not come in times of old by the will of man: but holy men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews then argued among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, dwells in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live by the Father: so he who eats me shall live because of me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven: not as the fathers ate manna, and died: he who eats this bread shall live forever. ⁵⁹ These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. ⁶⁰ Many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? ⁶¹ But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, Does this offend you? ⁶² What then if you should see the Son of man ascend to where he was before? ⁶³ The spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing: the words I speak to you are spirit and life. ⁶⁴ But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning those who did not believe, and who would betray him. ⁶⁵ And he said, Therefore I said to you, that no one can come to me, unless it is granted to him by the Father. ⁶⁶ From that time many of his disciples drew back, and no longer walked with him. ⁶⁷ Then Jesus said to the twelve, Do you also want to go away? ⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? you have the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we believe and have come to know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for it was he, one of the twelve, who would betray him.

⁸ For we would not have you ignorant of our trouble, brethren, which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed down beyond measure, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life. ⁹ Indeed, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead:

⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, He who believes has eternal life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die.

⁹ But regarding brotherly love you do not need any one to write to you: for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another. ¹⁰ And indeed you do love all the brethren who are in all Macedonia: but we urge you, brethren, that you do so more and more; ¹¹ And that you aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; ¹² That you may behave properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches: He who abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.
