¹⁴ For it will be as when a man going abroad called his own servants, and intrusted to them his property; ¹⁵ and to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability, and went abroad. ¹⁶ He that had received the five talents went immediately and traded with the same, and gained five talents more. ¹⁷ In like manner, he that had received the two gained two more. ¹⁸ But he that had received the one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lords money. ¹⁹ And after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. ²⁰ And he that had received the five talents came and brought five talents more, saying, Lord, thou intrustedst to me five talents; see, I have gained five talents more. ²¹ His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant! thou hast been faithful over a little, I will place thee in charge of much; enter into the joy of thy lord. ²² He also that had received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou intrustedst to me two talents; see, I have gained two talents more. ²³ His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant! thou hast been faithful over a little, I will place thee in charge of much; enter into the joy of thy lord. ²⁴ Then he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee to be a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter seed; ²⁵ and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth. See! thou hast thine own. ²⁶ But his lord answered and said to him, Wicked and slothful servant! Didst thou know that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter seed? ²⁷ Thou oughtest then to have put my money with the moneydealers, and on my coming I should have received mine own with interest. ²⁸ Take therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who hath the ten talents. ²⁹ For to every one that hath will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath will be taken away. ³⁰ And cast out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness; there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

¹² And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain over, that nothing may be lost. ¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barleyloaves, which remained over and above to those that had eaten. ¹⁴ The men therefore seeing the sign which he wrought, said, This is truly the prophet that was to come into the world.
