17 Charge those who are rich in this world that they be not highminded, nor place their hope in uncertain riches, but in God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, 18 that they be rich in good works, liberal in imparting, willing to communicate, 19 laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on the true life.

Luke 12:15-21

15 And he said to them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for even when one hath great abundance, his life doth not depend upon his possessions. 16 And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not where to store my crops. 18 And he said, This will I do; I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I store all my crops and my goods; 19 and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry. 20 But God said to him, Fool! this night will thy soul he required of thee; and whose will those things be which thou hast laid up? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

1 John 2:15-17

15 Love not the world, nor the things in the world. If any one loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Hebrews 13:5
