1 Peter 5:1-14

1 The elders among you I exhort, who am a fellowelder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a sharer in the glory that is to be revealed; 2 tend the flock of God which is among you, overseeing it, not by constraint, but willingly; not for base gain, but with ready mind; 3 not as lording it over your allotted charge, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye will receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 In like manner, ye younger men, submit yourselves to the elder; and all of you be clothed with humility toward each other; for "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble." 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; 7 casting all your care upon him, because he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; 9 whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being accomplished in your brethren in the world. 10 But the God of all grace, who called you to his everlasting glory in Christ Jesus, will, after ye have suffered a while, himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you. 11 To him be the dominion for ever. Amen. 12 By Silvanus, the faithful brother as I think, I have written to you in few words, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. 13 The church in Babylon, chosen with you, saluteth you; and Mark, my son. 14 Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all that are in Christ.

James 5:1-20

1 Come now, ye rich men, weep and wail for your miseries that are coming upon you. 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are become motheaten; 3 your gold and silver is rusted, and the rust of them will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire; ye have heaped up treasure in the last days! 4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who reaped your fields, which is fraudulently kept back by you, crieth out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. 5 Ye have lived in luxury on the earth, and have been given to pleasure; ye have pampered your hearts in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned, ye have killed the just man; he doth not resist you. 7 Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and is patient about it, until it hath received the early and latter rain. 8 Be ye also patient, establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. 9 Murmur not against each other, brethren, that ye be not judged. Behold, the Judge standeth before the door. 10 Take, brethren, the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, for an example of affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count those happy who have endured. Ye have heard of the patience of Job; behold also the end of the Lord, that he is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not; neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; that ye fall not under condemnation. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any cheerful? let him sing praise. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call to him the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up; even if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elijah was a man of like nature with us, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months; 18 and again he prayed, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. 19 Brethren, if any one among you be led astray from the truth, and one convert him, 20 let him know that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.

1 Timothy 2:1-15

1 I exhort then, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men; 2 for kings, and all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all godliness and propriety. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, 4 whose will is that all men should be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself a ransom for all; to which the testimony was to be borne in its own due times, 7 whereunto I was appointed a herald and an apostle, (I speak the truth, I lie not,) a teacher of the gentiles in faith and truth. 8 I desire, then, that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 9 In like manner also, that women, in seemly attire, adorn themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with braided hair, and gold, or pearls, or costly apparel; 10 but, as becometh women professing godliness, with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not the woman to teach, nor to have authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived; but the woman being deceived fell into transgression. 15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.
