⁹ but now, after having known God, or rather having been known by God, how is it that ye are turning back to the weak and beggarly rudiments to which ye wish to be again in bondage?

² Be watchful, and strengthen the remaining things, that were ready to die; for I have not found thy works perfect before my God.

²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is worse with them than the first.

³ Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and keep those things, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shalt not know at what hour I will come upon thee.

¹ Brethren, even if a man be detected in a fault, do ye who are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

¹⁹ having faith, and a good conscience, which some thrusting away made shipwreck concerning the faith;

⁴ For it is impossible that those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and been make partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, ⁶ and have fallen away, should again be renewed to repentance, since they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to open shame. ⁷ For the earth which hath drunk in the rain that cometh often upon it, and beareth plants useful to those for whose sake it is tilled, receiveth blessing from God; ⁸ but if it bear thorns and briers it is disapproved, and is near to being accursed; and its end is to be burned.

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded.

¹⁷ Therefore to him that knoweth how to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

⁷ Ye were running well; who hindered you, that ye should not obey the truth?

⁶² And Jesus said to him, No one who looketh back after putting his hand to the plough is fit for the kingdom of God.

²⁶ For if we sin willingly after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remaineth a sacrifice for sins; ²⁷ but a certain fearful looking for judgment, and an indignation by fire, which will devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He that hath set at nought the law of Moses dieth without mercy under two or three witnesses; ²⁹ of how much heavier punishment, think ye, will he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite to the Spirit of grace?

⁴ But I have this against thee, that thou hast left thy first love.

²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

⁵ Remember therefore whence thou hast fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come to thee, and will remove thy candlestick out of its place, unless thou repent.
