¹ A great cloud of witnesses surround us. Therefore let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that easily entangles us. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

⁷ I have fought the good fight! I have finished the course! I have kept the faith! ⁸ The crown of righteousness is laid up for me. The Lord, the righteous judge, will give it to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing (manifestation).

He gave him a blow in the hollow part of his thigh, so that his leg was damaged. ²⁶ He said to him: »Let me go now, for the dawn is near.« But Jacob said: »I will not let you go till you have given me your blessing.« ²⁷ Then he asked: »What is your name?« And he said, »Jacob.« ²⁸ The man said: »Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel (He Struggles With God), because you have struggled with God and with men and you have won.« ²⁹ Jacob said: »Please tell me your name.« The man answered: »Why do you ask for my name?« Then he blessed Jacob there. ³⁰ Jacob named that place Peniel (Face of God), because he said: »I have seen God face to face, yet my life was saved.«

¹² All things are lawful to me, but all things are not expedient (profitable) (good). All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the authority (power) (control) of anything.

⁸ Bodily exercise is profitable for a little. However, godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of the life that is to come.

³¹ Whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do everything to the glory of God.

⁵ If anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.
