³⁰ They asked: »What do you offer for a sign (miracle) that we may see and believe you? What work will you do? ³¹ »Our fathers ate manna in the wilderness. It is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’« ³² Jesus responded: »I speak the truth! It was not Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven. My Father gives you the true bread out of heaven. ³³ »For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven. It gives life to the world.« ³⁴ They responded: »Lord, always give us this bread.« ³⁵ Jesus replied: »I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not hunger. The one who puts active faith in me will never thirst. ³⁶ »I told you. You have seen me and yet do not believe. ³⁷ »That which the Father gives me will come to me. I will not reject him who comes to me. ³⁸ »I do not do my own will. I came down from heaven to do the will of him that sent me. ³⁹ »This is the will of him that sent me that I should not lose any of those he has given me, but I should raise them up at the last day. ⁴⁰ »For this is the will of my Father. Every one who sees the Son and puts active faith in him will have everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day.«

³⁴ Jesus said: »My food is to do the will of him that sent me. To finish his work!

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was like God (God-like). ² The same was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made through him and without him not one thing was made. ⁴ He lived and his life gives light to all people.
