⁹ Neither was man created for woman but woman for man. ¹⁰ That is why the woman should have a sign of authority on her head because of the angels. ¹¹ However in the Lord, both men and women exist together. Not one without the other. ¹² For as woman is from man, even so is man also from woman. But all things are from God! ¹³ Judge in yourselves. Is it proper that women pray to God uncovered? ¹⁴ Does not even nature itself teach you, that, if men have long hair, it is a shame? ¹⁵ But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her for her hair is given her for a covering. ¹⁶ If anyone is contentious about this we have no other practice, neither do the congregations of God.

² The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate in habits, sound in mind, orderly, hospitable, qualified to teach;

¹ Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the holy ones in union with Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and ministerial servants:

³ I would have you know, that the head (authority) of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. ⁴ Every man who prays or prophesies having his head covered dishonors his head. ⁵ But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head. She is the same as if she had her head shaved. ⁶ For if the woman were not covered, let her also be shaved. But if it is a shame for a woman to have her head shaved, let her be covered. ⁷ For a man should not cover his head, for he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man. ⁸ For the man is not from the woman; but the woman is from the man.

³ Aged women likewise should be reverent in behavior and teachers of that which is good. They should not be slanderers nor enslaved to too much wine. ⁴ They may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that the word of God will not be (defamed) dishonored.

¹¹ Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection. ¹² I do not permit a woman to teach or have dominion over a man, but to remain quiet.

⁸ Ministerial servants should likewise be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain. ⁹ They should maintain the secret of the faith with a clear conscience. ¹⁰ Let these be tested first. Then let them serve as servants, if they are blameless. ¹¹ Women in like manner must be serious, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. ¹² Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. ¹³ For they that have served well as servants gain to themselves a good standing and great confidence (boldness of speech) in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

⁹ Likewise I want women to be adorned in modest clothing, with modesty and soundness of mind; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly clothes;

³ Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the good news, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

² Receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the holy ones. Assist her in whatever business she has need of from you. She has been a great help to many people including me.

²⁶ He spoke boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him home and explained God’s word more accurately.

³ Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus.

¹² Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

¹ I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a minister of the congregation at Cenchrea. ² Receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the holy ones. Assist her in whatever business she has need of from you. She has been a great help to many people including me.

¹¹ Women in like manner must be serious, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
