⁴ In his eyes a vile man is despised, but he honors those who fear the LORD. He keeps an oath even when it hurts, and doesn't change it.

¹⁶ For people swear oaths by something greater, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

¹⁸ To whom did he swear that they would not enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient?

¹² But above all things, my brothers, do not swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your "yes" be "yes," and your "no," "no;" so that you do not fall under judgment.

³³ "Again you have heard that it was said to them of old time, 'Do not make false vows, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.' ³⁴ But I tell you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God; ³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Neither should you swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'No.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
