¹ Well then, as the promise of entrance into his Rest is still left to us, let us be afraid of anyone being judged to have missed it. ² For we have had the good news as well as they; only, the message they heard was of no use to them, because it did not meet with faith in the hearers. ³ For we do enter the Rest by our faith: according to his word, As I swore in my anger, they shall never enter my Rest — although his works were all over by the foundation of the world. ⁴ For he says this somewhere about the seventh day: And God rested from all his works on the seventh day. ⁵ And again in this passage, they shall never enter my Rest. ⁶ Since then it is reserved for some to enter it, and since those who formerly got the good news failed to enter owing to their disobedience, ⁷ he again fixes a day; To-day — as he says in 'David' after so long an interval, and as has been already quoted — To-day, when you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. ⁸ Thus if Joshua had given them Rest, God would not speak later about another day. ⁹ There is a sabbath-Rest, then, reserved still for the People of God ¹⁰ (for once a man enters his rest, he rests from work just as God did). ¹¹ Let us be eager then to enter that Rest, in case anyone falls into the same sort of disobedience.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find your souls refreshed;

³¹ And he said to them, "Come away to some lonely spot and get a little rest" (for there were many people coming and going, and they could get no time even to eat).

²⁸ Come to me, all who are labouring and burdened, and I will refresh you. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find your souls refreshed; ³⁰ my yoke is kindly and my burden light."
