4 And he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and when he was come sat doune vnder a Ginaper tree, and desyred for his soule, that he myght dye, and saide, it is nowe ynough O Lorde, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers. 5 And as he laye and slepte vnder the Ginaper tree: beholde, there came an Aungell and touched him, and sayd vnto him: vp and eate. 6 And he loked aboute him: and se, there was a loffe of broyled breade and a cruse of water at hys heade. And he ate and drancke & layde hym doune agayne to slepe. 7 And the Aungell of the Lorde came agayne the seconde tyme, and touched him, and sayde: vp and eate, for thou hast a longe iourney to go. 8 And he arose & dyd eate and drincke and went in the strength of that meate fourtye dayes and fourtye nyghtes, vnto Horeb the mount of God, 9 & entred there into a caue & lodged there al night. And then the word of the lord came to him and sayde: what doest thou here, Eliah? 10 And he answered: I haue bene thorow angry for the Lorde God of hostes sake. For the children of Israel haue forsake thy couenaunt, & haue broken doune thyne aultars and slayne the Prophetes with the swerde, and I onlye am lefte, and they seke my soule to haue it to. 11 And he sayde: come out and stande before the Lorde. And beholde, the lorde went by and a myghty stronge wynde that rent the mountaynes, and brake the rockes before him. But the Lorde was not in the wynde. And after the wynde came an earthquake. But the lorde was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake, came fyre: but the Lord was not in the fyre. And after the fyre, came a smal stil voice. 13 And when Eliah hearde it, he couered hys face wyth hys mantle, and went out an stode in the mouth of the caue. And se, there came a voyce vnto him, and sayde: what doest thou here Eliah? 14 And he answered: I was gelouse for the Lorde God of hostes sake: because the children of Israel haue forsaken thine appointment and haue cast doune thyne aultars and slayne thy Prophetes with the swerde, and I only am lefte, and they seke my soule to haue it. 15 Then the Lorde sayde vnto hym: go and turne thy waye to the wyldernesse of Damasco, and go and annoynte Hazael to be kynge of Siria. 16 And Iehu the sonne of Namsi, annoynte to be kinge ouer Israel. And Elizeus the sonne of Saphat of Abel Mehulah annoynt to be Prophete in thy roume. 17 And who so eskapeth the swerde of Hazael, hym shall Iehu slaye: and yf any man scape the swerde of Iehu, hym shall Elizeus slaye. 18 And therto I haue lefte me seuen thousande in Israel, of whyche neuer man bowed his knees vnto Baal, nor kissed him with his mouthe. 19 And he departed thence, and founde Elizeus the sonne of Saphat plowinge wyth twelue yocke of oxen before him, and he with the twelue. And Eliah went to hym and cast his mantel vpon him. 20 And he lefte the oxen & ranne after Eliah and sayd: let me I pray the kisse my father and my mother, and then I will folow the. And he saide to him: go backe againe, for what haue I done to the? 21 And he went backe againe from after him, and toke a yocke of oxen and slue them, and dressed the fleshe with the instrumentes of the oxen and gaue it the people, and they did eate. And then he arose and went after Eliah and ministred vnto him.

Matthew 6:1-34

1 Take hede to your almes, that ye geue it not in the sight of men, to the intent that ye would be sene of them. Or els ye get no rewarde of youre father whyche is in heauen. 2 Whensoeuer therfore thou geuest thime almes, thou shalt not make a trompet to be blowen before the, as the hypocrytes do in the synagoges and in the stretes, for to be praised of men. Verely I saye vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 3 But when thou doest thine almes, let not thy lyft hande knowe what thy ryght hande doth, 4 that thyne almes may be secrete: and thy father whiche seeth in secrete, shall rewarde the openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hipocrites are. For they loue to stande and praye in the sinagoges, and in the corners of the stretes, and because they wolde be seane of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 6 But when thou prayest, entre into thy chamber, & shut thy dore to the, & praie to thi father which is in secrete: & thy father which seeth in secrete, shall rewarde the openlye. 7 But when ye praye, bable not much as the Heathen do: for they thinke that they shalbe herde, for their muche bablynge sake. 8 Be ye not lyke them therfore. For your father knoweth wherof ye haue neade, before ye axe of him 9 after this manner therfore pray ye. Our father which art in heauen, halowed be thy name. 10 Let thy kingdome come. Thy wyll be fulfylled, as well in earth, as it is in heauen. 11 Geue vs this daye our daylye breade. 12 And forgeue vs our trespases, euen as we forgeue oure trespasers. 13 And lead vs not into temptaciou. But delyuer vs from euyll. For thyne is the kingdome and the power, and the glorye for euer Amen. 14 For and if ye shall forgeue other men their trespases, your heauenlye father shall also forgeue you. 15 But and ye wyll not forgeue men theyr trespases, no more shall your father forgeue your trespases. 16 Moreouer when ye fast, be not sad as the hipocrites are. For they disfygure their faces, that they myght be sene of men how they fast. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, annoint thine head, & wash thy face 18 that it appeare not vnto men howe that thou fastest but vnto thy father which is in secrete: & thy father which seth in secret shal reward the openly. 19 Se that ye gater you not treasure vpon the earth, where ruste & mothes corrupte, & wher theues breake throughe & steale. 20 But gather ye treasure together in heauen, where neither rust nor mothes corrupt, & where theues neyther breake vp nor yet steale. 21 For wher soeuer your treasur is, ther wyl your hertes be also. 22 The lyght of thy body is thine eye. Wherfore if thine eye be single, al thy bodye shalbe full of light. 23 But and if thyne eye be wycked then al thy bodye shalbe ful of darkenes. Wherfore if the light that is in the, be darkenes: how great is that darckenes? 24 No man can serue two maysters. For eyther he shall hate the one & loue the other: yea or eles he shall leane to the one & dispise the other. Ye cannot serue God & Mammon. 25 Therfore I saie vnto you, be not tareful for you life what ye shall eate or what ye shall dryncke, nor yet for your bodye, what ye shall put on, is not the lyfe more worthe then meate, and the body more of value then rayment? 26 Behold the foules of the ayer: for the sowe not, neyther reape, nor yet cary into the barnes: and yet your heauenlye father fedethe them. Are ye not muche better then they? 27 Whych of you (though he toke thoughte therfore) coulde put one cubit vnto hys statuture? 28 And why care ye then for rayment? Considre the lylies of the filde, howe they growe. They laboureth not nether spynne. 29 And yet for all that I saye vnto you that euen Solomon in all hys royaltie was not arayed lyke vnto one of these. 30 Wherfore if God so clothe the grasse, which is to day in the felde, and to morowe shall be cast in to the fournace: shall he not much more do the same vnto you, o ye of lytle fayth? 31 Therfore take no thought saiynge: what shall we eate, or what shall we dryncke, or wherewith shal we be clothed? 32 After all these thynges seke the gentils. For your heauenlye father knoweth that ye haue neade of all these thynges. 33 But rather seke ye first the kyngdome of heauen and the rightuousnes therof, & all these thynge shalbe ministred vnto you. 34 Care not then for the morow, but let the morow care for itself: for the day present hath euer ynough of his owne trouble.
