²⁰ For I say vnto you except your rightuousnes excede, the rightuousnes of the scribes & phariseis, ye can not entre into the kingdom of heauen. ²¹ Ye haue heard howe it was said vnto them of the olde time: Thou shalt not kil. For whosoeuer killeth, shal be in daunger of iudgement, ²² but I sai vnto yow, whosoeuer is angre wt his brother without a cause shal be in daunger of iudgement. Whosoeuer saieth to his brother Racha, shalbe in daunger of a counsel. But whosoeuer saieth thou fole, shalbe in daunger of hel fire ²³ Therefore when thou offrest thy gift at the altare, & their remembrest that thy brother hath ought against the: ²⁴ leue there thy offringe before the altare, & go thy way first & be reconciled to thy brother, & then come and offre thy gift. ²⁵ Agre with thine aduersary quickly, whiles thou art in the way wt him, lest the aduersary deliuer the to the iudge, & the iudge deliuer the to the minister, & then thou be cast into prison. ²⁶ I say vnto the verely: thou shalt not come out thence tyl thou haue payed the vttermost farthing. ²⁷ Ye haue heard how it was sayed to them of olde time: Thou shalt not commit adultery. ²⁸ But I saye vnto you, that whosoeuer loketh on a wife, lustinge after her, hath committed adulterye with her alredy in his herte ²⁹ Wherfore if thy ryght eye offende the plucke him out, & cast him from the. Better it is for the that one of thy members perishe, then that thy whol body should be cast into hel. ³⁰ Also if thy right hand offende the, cut him of & cast him from the. And whosoeuer marieth her that is deuorced, breaketh wedlocke. ³³ Agayne ye haue hearde how it was sayed to them of olde time, thou shalt not forsweare thy self, but shalt performe thine othe to God. ³⁴ But I saye vnto you, swere not at al, neither by heauen, for it is Goddes seate: ³⁵ nor yet by the earth, for it is his fotstole: neither by Ierusalem for it is the citye of the great kinge ³⁶ neither shalt thou sweare by thy head, because thou canst not make one whyte hear, or blacke. ³⁷ But your communicacion shalbe, yea, yea: nay, nay. For whatsoeuer is more than that cometh to euell. ³⁸ Ye haue hearde how it is sayed, an eye for an eye: a tothe for a tothe. ³⁹ But I saye to you that ye resyst not wrong. But who soeuer geue the a blowe on the right cheke, tourne to hym the other. ⁴⁰ And if anye man wyll sue the at the lawe, and take awaye thy coote, let hym haue thy clooke also. ⁴¹ And whosoeuer wyll compell the to goo a myle, goo with hym twaine. ⁴² Geue to hym that axeth, & from him that woulde borow tourne not away. ⁴³ Ye haue hearde how it is said: thou shalt loue thy neighbour, and hate thyne enemy. ⁴⁴ But I say vnto you loue your enemies. Blesse theim that cursse you. Do good to them that hate you. Pray for them which doo you wronge and persecute you, ⁴⁵ that ye may be the chyldren of youre father that is in heauen: for he maketh his sonne to aryse on the yuyll, and on the good and sendeth his raine on the iust and vniust. ⁴⁶ For if ye loue them, whiche loue you: what rewarde shall ye haue? Doo not the publicanes euen so? ⁴⁷ And if ye be frendly to your brethren only what synguler thinge doo ye? Do not the publycanes likewyses? ⁴⁸ Ye shall therfore be perfect, euen as your father which is in heauen, is perfect.

⁹ Whosoeuer transgresseth and bydeth not in the doctryne of Christe, hath not God. He that endureth in the doctrine of Christe, hath both the father and the sonne.

⁴⁶ Why call ye me Maister Maister, and do not as I byd you?

¹⁵ Yf ye loue me, kepe my commaundementes

¹ Then spake Iesus to the people, & to hys disciples ² sayinge: The Scribes and the Phariseis sit in Moyses seate. ³ All therfore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and do, but after their workes do not, ⁴ for they say and do not. Yea, and they bynd heauy burthens and greuous to be borne and lay them on mens shoulders: but they them selfs will not heaue at them with one of theyr fyngers.

²³ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis, hypocrites, which tythe mynte, anyse and commen, and leaue the wayghtyer matters of the lawe vndone: iudgement, mercy, and faythe. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue lefte the other vndone. ²⁴ Ye blynde guydes whiche strayne out a gnat, and swallowe a cammell. ²⁵ Wo be to you Scribes and Pharises hypocrites, which make cleane the vtter side of the cuppe, & of the platter: but within they are ful of bribery and excesse. ²⁶ Thou blynd Pharisei, clense first the ynneside of the cup & platter, that the outside of them may be clene also. ²⁷ Wo be to you Scribes and Phariseis hypocrytes, for ye are lyke vnto paynted tombes, whiche appeare beautifull outwarde, but are within full of dead bones and of all filthines. ²⁸ So are ye, for outwarde ye apeare righteouse vnto men, when within, ye are full of hypocresie and iniquitie.

²⁸ For we suppose that a man is iustified by fayth withoute the dedes of the lawe.

²¹ I despyse not the grace of God. For yf ryghteousnes come of the lawe, then Christ dyed in vayne

¹⁰ For as many as are vnder the dedes of the lawe, are vnder malediccyon. For it is wrytten: cursed is euery man that contynueth not in all thynges, whiche are wrytten in the boke of the law, to fulfyll them. ¹¹ That no man is iustifyed by the lawe in the syght of God, is euydente. For the iuste shall lyue by fayth. ¹² The lawe is not of fayth: but the man that fulfylleth the thinges contayned in the lawe, shall lyue in them. ¹³ But Christ hath delyuered vs from the curse of the lawe, and was made accursed for vs. For it is wrytten: cursed is euery one that hangeth on tre, ¹⁴ that the blessyng of Abraham myghte come on the Gentyles thorowe Iesus Christ and that we myght receyue the promes of the spyryte thorow fayth.

²⁸ Then sayde they vnto him: what shall we do that we might worke the workes of God? ²⁹ Iesus aunswered and saide vnto them: This is the worke of God, that ye beleue on him: whom he hath sent.

¹⁶ knowe that a man is not iustifyed by the dedes of the lawe, but by the fayth of Iesus Christe. And therfore we haue beleued on Iesus Christe that we myghte be iustifyed by the fayth of Christe, and not by the dedes of the lawe, because that by the dedes of the lawe no fleshe can be iustifyed.

⁸ For by grace are ye made safe thorowe fayth, and that not of youre selues. For it is the gyfte of God, ⁹ and commeth not of workes, leste anye man should bost him selfe.
