² Yea and a bishop muste be fautlesse the husband of one wyfe, sober discrete, hone style apparelled, harberous, apt to teache,

¹ Paule and Tymotheus the seruauntes of Iesu Christe. To all the sainctes in Christe Iesu, which are at Philippos, wyth the Bishops and Deacons.

³ I woulde you knewe that Christ is the heade of euery man. And the man is the womans heade. And God is Christes heade. ⁴ Euery man praiynge or prophesiynge hauing any thinge on his heade, shameth his head. ⁵ Euery woman that prayeth or prophesyeth bare headed, dishonesteth her heade. For it is euen all one, and the very same thinge, euen as though she were shauen. ⁶ If the woman be not couered, let her also be shoren. If it be shame for a woman to be shorne or shauen let her couer her head. ⁷ A man oughte not to couer his heade, for as muche as he is the ymage and glorye of God. The woman is the glorye of the man. ⁸ For the man is not of the woman, but the woman of the man. ⁹ Neither was the man created for the womans sake: but the woman for the mannes sake. ¹⁰ For thys cause ought the woman to haue power on her heade, for the aungels sakes. ¹¹ Neuerthelesse, neyther is the man wythout the woman neyther the woman wythout the man in the Lorde. ¹² For as the woman is of the man, euen so is the man by the woman: but al is of God. ¹³ Iudge in your selfes whether it be comelye, that a woman praye vnto God beare headed. ¹⁴ Or els doeth not nature teache you that it is a shame for a man, ¹⁵ yf he haue longe heyr, & prayse to a woman, yf she haue longe heyre? For her heyre is geuen her to couer her wythall. ¹⁶ If there be anye man amonge you, that lusteth to striue let hym knowe that we haue no suche custome, neither the congregations of God.

³ And the elder women lykewyse, that they be in such rayment as becommeth holynes, not false accusars, not geuen to muche drynkynge, but teachers of honest thinges ⁴ to make the yong women sobre mynded, to loue theyr husbandes, to loue their chyldren, ⁵ to be dyscret, chast, huswyfly, good & obedyent vnto theyr owne husbandes, that the word of God be not euyl spoken of.

¹¹ Let the woman learne in silence with all subieccyon. ¹² I suffer not a woman to teache, neyther to haue authoritie ouer a man: but for to be in silence.

⁸ Lykewyse muste the Deacons be honest, not double tonged, not geuen vnto much drinkynge, neyther vnto fylthy lucre: ⁹ but hauing the mystery of the fayth in a pure conscience. ¹⁰ And let them fyrste be proued, and then lette them mynyster, yf they be founde fautlesse. ¹¹ Euen so muste theyr wyues be honeste, not euyll speakers, but sober and faythfull in all thynges. ¹² Let the deacons be the husbandes of one wyfe, and suche as rule theyr chyldren well, and theyr owne housholdes. ¹³ For they that mynyster wel, get them selues good degree and greate lybertye in the faythe whiche is in Christ Iesu.

⁹ Lykewyse also the women that they araye them selues in comlye apparell wyth shamefastnes and discrete behauyoure not wyth broyded heare other golde, or pearles, or costlye araye:

³ Yea, and I beseche the faythfull yockefelowe, helpe the women, whiche laboured wyth me in the Gospell, and with Clemente also, and with other my labour felowes, whose names are in the boke of my lyfe.

²⁶ And the same began to speake boldely in the Synagoge. And when Aquila & Priscilla had hearde him, they toke him vnto them & expounded vnto him the way of God more perfectly.

¹² Let the deacons be the husbandes of one wyfe, and suche as rule theyr chyldren well, and theyr owne housholdes.

⁸ Lykewyse muste the Deacons be honest, not double tonged, not geuen vnto much drinkynge, neyther vnto fylthy lucre:

² that ye receyue her in the Lorde as it becommeth saynctes, & that ye assiste her in whatsoeuer busynes she neadeth of youre ayde. For she hath suckered many, & myne owne selfe also. ³ Grete Prisca & Aquyla my helpers in Christe Iesu,

¹² I suffer not a woman to teache, neyther to haue authoritie ouer a man: but for to be in silence.

¹⁰ and well reported of in good workes: yf she haue nouryshed chyldren, yf she haue bene lyberall to straungers, yf she haue washed the saynctes fete, yf she haue mynystred vnto them whiche were in aduersitie, yf she were contynually geuen vnto all maner good workes.

¹ I commende vnto you Phebe our syster (whiche is a minister of the congregacion of Cenchrea) ² that ye receyue her in the Lorde as it becommeth saynctes, & that ye assiste her in whatsoeuer busynes she neadeth of youre ayde. For she hath suckered many, & myne owne selfe also.

¹¹ Euen so muste theyr wyues be honeste, not euyll speakers, but sober and faythfull in all thynges.
