Matthew 16:24-25

24 Then addressing himself to his disciples, if any man, said he, would follow me, let him renounce himself, take up his cross, and so follow me. 25 for whosoever will save himself, shall be a looser: and whosoever shall suffer loss for my sake, shall be a gainer.

John 15:1-17

1 I am the genuine vine, and my father is the vintager. 2 every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he takes away: as for the branch that bears fruit, he prunes it clean, to make it more fruitful. 3 you are already clean by the instructions I have given you. 4 be attach'd to me, and I shall be so to you. as the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, except it be attach'd to the vine: so neither can you, except you continue attach'd to me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for independent of me ye can do nothing. 6 if a man abide not in me, he is cast away as withered branches that are gather'd up to be thrown into the fire, where they are burned. 7 if ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask what ye will, and you shall obtain it. 8 my father will be honour'd by your bearing much fruit, and you will have the honour of being my disciples. 9 as the father has loved me, and I have loved you: so do you persevere in your love to me. 10 your love to me will be in keeping my commandments: even as I love my father by keeping his commandments. 11 These things have I spoken to you, that you might have some present comfort, and that hereafter your joy might be compleat. 12 this is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 there cannot be greater love than that of a man, who lays down his life for his friends. 14 you will be my friends, if you do what I have commanded you. 15 henceforth I do not treat you as servants; for the servant is unacquainted with his master's affairs: but I have treated you as friends; for what I have learnt of my father, I have communicated to you. 16 it was not you that chose me, but I that chose you, and establish'd you, that your travels may be fruitful, and your fruit be lasting: so that whatever ye shall ask of the father for my sake, he will give it you. 17 Above all I enjoin you, to love one another.

Titus 2:1-8

1 As for you, teach nothing 2 but what is agreeable to sound doctrine: advise the aged to be prudent, grave, temperate, sound in faith, 3 in charity, in patience: the aged women likewise, to behave with sanctity of manners, not false accusers, not given to tipling, 4 but to lectures on virtue, that they may teach the young women prudence, to love their husbands, 5 to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, good oeconimists, beneficent, submissive to their husbands, 6 that the word of God may not be blasphemed. the young men likewise exhort to be modest. 7 In all things show yourself a pattern of virtue: in teaching shewing uncorruptness, 8 gravity; let your doctrine be sound and inoffensive, that your opponents may be ashamed, and have nothing that is ill to say of us.

Ephesians 4:11-17

11 It is he then that made some, apostles: some, prophets: some, evangelists: and others, pastors, and teachers: 12 thus fitly qualifying his servants for their respective offices, in order to build up the body of Christ: 13 till being united in a perfect belief, and acknowledgment of the son of God, we grow up to that full state of maturity required by Christ: 14 that we should be no longer children, fluctuating, and carried about with every empty doctrine, by men vers'd in sleight and the crafty arts of deceit: 15 but being sincere in mutual love, may be entirely united to Christ, who is the head: 16 from which the whole body fitly framed, and compacted by the entire adherence and contribution of every part performing its respective function, increases and improves itself by the mutual concern of the parts. 17 This I say therefore, and conjure you by the Lord not to live for the future as other Gentiles do, in the vanity of their minds,
