¹⁹ On the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, although the doors of the room where the disciples gathered had been locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came, and there he stood among them, saying. "Peace to you!" ²⁰ As he said this he showed them his hands and his side. Then were the disciple glad, when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again. "Peace to you. As my Father has sent me forth, I also now am sending you." ²² When he had said this he breathed upon them and said: ²³ "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you remit any one's sins, they are remitted; if you retain them they are retained."

¹¹ It is he who made some men apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,

⁶ "But that you may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins"—he then says to the paralytic, "Rise, take up your bed, and go to your home." ⁷ And he rose and went to his home. ⁸ But all the crowd were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

¹ Be imitators of me, as I am an imitator of Christ. ² Indeed I praise you for remembering me in everything, and because you are holding fast to the traditions just as you received them.
