¹ I BESEECH you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, by means of reasonable service.

⁸ Be vigilant, and be cautious; because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

² Do not imitate the way of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, that you may discern what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

²⁹ Let no bad word proceed from your mouth, but words that are good and useful for edification, that they will impart blessing to those who hear them.

²² Abstain from every sort of evil.

¹¹ It is not what enters into the mouth which defiles man; but what goes out of the mouth, that is what defiles man.

¹⁰ Now, therefore, he who desires eternal life and wants to see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

¹⁶ Shun empty and worthless words, for they only increase the ungodliness of those who argue over them.

¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceed curses and blessings. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

³⁶ For I say to you, that for every foolish word which men speak, they will have to answer for it on the day of judgment.
