¹⁶ You will know them by their fruits. Why, do they gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

¹⁵ Now then, if your brother is at fault with you, go and rebuke him alone; if he listens to you, then you have won your brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not listen to you, take one or two with you, because at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is sustained. ¹⁷ And if he will not listen to them, tell the congregation; and if he will not listen to the congregation, then regard him as a publican and a heathen.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that light has come into the world, and yet men have loved darkness more than light, because their works were evil.

⁴ And parents, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and teaching of our LORD.

¹ MY little children, these things I write to you, that you do not sin. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: ² And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. ³ And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He who says, I know him, and does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. ⁵ But whoso keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby we know that we are in him. ⁶ He who says, he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. ⁷ My beloved, I do not write a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have already heard. ⁸ Again, a new commandment I do write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. ⁹ He who says he is in the light but hates his brother, is therefore in darkness even until now. ¹⁰ He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for displeasure in him. ¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because that darkness has blinded his eyes. ¹² I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his nameÆs sake. ¹³ I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. ¹⁴ I have written to you, fathers, because you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. ¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the body, and the covetousness of the eyes, and the pride of material things; does not come from the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he who does the will of God abides forever. ¹⁸ My children, it is the last time: and as you have heard that a false Christ shall come, even now there are many false Christs, and from this we know that it is the last time. ¹⁹ They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they left us, that it might be known they did not belong to us. ²⁰ But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you are enabled to distinguish between men. ²¹ I have written to you not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie comes out of the truth. ²² Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is a false christ, and whoever denies the Father, denies the Son also. ²³ Whoever denies the Son, the same does not believe in the Father; but whoever acknowledges the Son, acknowledges the Father also. ²⁴ Let that, therefore, abide in you which you have heard from the very beginning. For if that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Father and in the Son. ²⁵ And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life. ²⁶ These things I have written to you concerning those who seduce you. ²⁷ And you also, if the anointing which you have received from him abides among you, need no one to teach you: that same anointing which is of God, will teach you all things; it is a truth, and there is no lie in it; and even as I have taught you, abide in it. ²⁸ And now, my children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may not be ashamed before him, but have pride at his coming. ²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know also that every one who does righteousness is of him.

¹ JUDGE not, that you may not be judged. ² For with the same judgment that you judge, you will be judged, and with the same measure with which you measure, it will be measured to you. ³ Why do you see the splinter which is in your brotherÆs eye, and do not feel the beam which is in your own eye? ⁴ Or how can you say to your brother, let me take out the splinter from your eye, and behold there is a cross beam in your own eye? ⁵ O hypocrites, first take out the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to get out the splinter from your brotherÆs eye.

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but in works they deny him, and they are abominable, and disobedient, condemning every kind of good work.

¹⁷ Now I beseech you, my brethren, beware of those who cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which you have been taught; keep away from them. ¹⁸ For those who are such do not serve our LORD Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by smooth words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple people. ¹⁹ But your obedience is known to every one. I rejoice therefore on your behalf: and I want you to be wise in regard to good things, and pure concerning evil things.

¹ IF, therefore, you have found consola tion in Christ, or whole hearted love or fellowship of the Spirit or compassion and mercies, ² Complete my joy by being in one accord and one love and one soul and one mind. ³ Do nothing through strife or vain glory; but in humility let each regard his neighbor better than himself. ⁴ Let no one be mindful only of his own things, but let every one be mindful of the things of his neighbor also. ⁵ Reason this within you which Jesus Christ also reasoned, ⁶ Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God: ⁷ But made himself of no reputation and took upon himself the form of a servant, and was in the likeness of men: ⁸ And, being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross. ⁹ Wherefore God also has highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name; ¹⁰ That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, of those on earth, and those under the earth, ¹¹ And every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is the LORD, to the glory of God his Father. ¹² From now on, my beloved, just as you have always been obedient, not only in my presence, but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ¹³ For it is God who inspires you with the will to do the good things which you desire to do. ¹⁴ Do all things without disputing, and doubting: ¹⁵ That you may be sincere and blameless, like the innocent children of God, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world: ¹⁶ For you are to them the light of life; for my pride and glory in the day of Christ, for I have not run in vain nor labored in vain. ¹⁷ Yes, even if my blood be offered upon the sacrifice and the service of your faith, I am happy and rejoice with you all. ¹⁸ Likewise you also must be happy and rejoice with me. ¹⁹ But I trust in our LORD Jesus Christ to send Ti-moÆthe-us to you soon, that I also may be at ease when I learn of your well being. ²⁰ For I have no one here as interested as I am, who will sincerely care for your welfare; ²¹ For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus ChristÆs. ²² But you know his record, that as a son with his father, he has served with me in the gospel. ²³ I hope to send him to you presently, as soon as I see how it will go with me. ²⁴ But I trust in my LORD that I also myself shall come shortly. ²⁵ But right now I am forced through circumstances to send to you Epaphroditus, a brother, and assistant and co-worker with me, but he is also your apostle and one who ministers to my wants. ²⁶ For he has been longing to see you all, and has been depressed because he knew you had heard that he had been sick. ²⁷ For indeed he was sick to the point of death but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. ²⁸ Therefore I have sent him quickly, so that, when you see him again, you may rejoice, and that I may be relieved from anxiety. ²⁹ Welcome him, therefore, in the LORD with all joy; and honour those who are like him: ³⁰ Because for the work of Christ he came near to death; and by his self denial, he made good your lack of service to me.

⁵ And you too, young people, submit yourselves to your elders; and clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

¹ KNOW this: that in the last days disas trous times will come. ² And men shall be lovers of themselves, and lovers of money, proud, conceited, blasphemers, disobedient to their own people, ungrateful, wicked, ³ False accusers, addicts to lust, brutal, haters of good things, ⁴ Traitors, hasty, boasters, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ Having a form of godliness, but are far from the power of God: from such turn away. ⁶ For of this sort are those who creep into houses and captivate women sunken in sin, led away with divers lusts, ⁷ Ever striving to learn, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth,
