¹⁶ Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, and die with him.

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

⁹ And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore I would rather boast in my infirmities that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore I am content with infirmities, insults, hardships, persecutions, and imprisonments for ChristÆs sake: for when I am physically weak, then I am mentally strong.

²⁸ Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but who cannot kill the soul; but above all, be afraid of him who can destroy both the soul and the body in hell. ²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall on the ground without your FatherÆs will. ³⁰ But so far as you are concerned, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. ³¹ Therefore fear not; you are much more important than many sparrows. ³² Everyone therefore who will acknowledge me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. ³³ But whoever will deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father in heaven.

³¹ What then shall we say concerning these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? ³² If he did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, why will he not freely give us all things with him? ³³ Who is to complain against the chosen ones of God? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died and rose again, and he is at the right hand of God making intercession for us. ³⁵ What shall separate me from the love of Christ? tribulation, or imprisonment, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

⁹ And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the sake of the word of God and for the testimony of the Lamb which they had: ¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice saying, How long, O LORD, holy and true, do you not judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?

¹² Likewise, all those who wish to live a godly life in Jesus Christ shall suffer persecution.

¹⁴ If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you: for the glorious Spirit of God rests upon you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer the fate of a murderer, or a thief, or a malefactor. ¹⁶ If any man suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed: but let him glorify God through that very name.
