¹⁵ I speak as to prudent ones; you judge what I say. ¹⁶ The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a partaking of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a partaking of the body of Christ? ¹⁷ Because we, the many, are one bread, one body, for we all partake of the one bread.

²⁵ But in the same way Rahab the harlot was also justified out of works, having received the messengers, and sending them out by another way. ²⁶ For as the body is dead apart from the spirit, so also faith is dead apart from works.

¹⁸ Because even Christ once suffered concerning sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God; indeed being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit; ¹⁹ in which also, going in to the spirits in prison, He then proclaimed ²⁰ to disobeying ones, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, an ark having been prepared in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. ²¹ Which figure now also saves us, baptism (not a putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ; ²² who going into Heaven is at the right of God, the angels, and authorities, and powers being subjected to Him).

¹¹ For no one is able to lay any other foundation beside the One having been laid, who is Jesus Christ. ¹² And if anyone builds on this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, grass, straw, ¹³ the work of each will be revealed; for the Day will make it known, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire will prove the work of each, what sort it is. ¹⁴ If the work of anyone which he built remains, he will receive a reward. ¹⁵ If the work of anyone shall be consumed, he shall suffer loss; but he will be saved, but so as through fire.

²⁰ But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is dead? ²¹ Was not our father Abraham justified by works offering up his son Isaac on the altar? Gen. 22:9 ²² You see that faith worked with his works; and out of the works the faith was made perfected. ²³ And the Scripture was fulfilled, saying, "And Abraham believed God, and it was counted for righteousness to him;" and he was called, Friend of God. Gen. 15:6; Isa. 41:8 ²⁴ You see, then, that a man is justified out of works, and not out of faith only.

⁵ Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, if one does not receive birth out of water and Spirit, he is not able to enter into the kingdom of God.

¹ Be imitators of me, as I also of Christ. ² But I praise you, brothers, that in all things you have remembered me, and even as I delivered to you, you hold fast the doctrines.
