¹ Of David.*
Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me to eat my flesh— my adversaries and my enemies who drew near to me— they themselves stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war arise against me, even in this I will remain confident. ⁴ One thing I have asked from Yahweh; it I will seek: that I may dwell in the house* of Yahweh all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of Yahweh, and to consider* his temple. ⁵ Because he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble. He will conceal me in the hiding place of his tent. He will set me high upon a rock. ⁶ And now my head will be high over my enemies round about me. And I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to Yahweh. ⁷ Hear, O Yahweh, my voice when I call, and be gracious to me and answer me. ⁸ On your behalf my heart says, "Seek my face." Your face, O Yahweh, I do seek. ⁹ Do not hide your face from me; do not turn your servant away in anger. You have been my help; do not abandon nor forsake me, O God of my salvation. ¹⁰ If my father or my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will receive me. ¹¹ Teach me, O Yahweh, your way, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. ¹² Do not give me over to the desire of my enemies, because false witnesses have arisen against me, and each breathing out violence.* ¹³ Surely* I believe that I will see the goodness of Yahweh in the land of the living. ¹⁴ Wait for Yahweh. Be strong and let your heart show strength, and wait for Yahweh.

¹⁷ Every weapon formed against you shall not succeed, and you shall declare guilty every tongue that rises against you for judgment. This is the inheritance of the servants of Yahweh, and their _⌊legal right_⌋* from me,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

³ You will protect a firm inclination in peace, in peace because he trusts in you.

⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,

¹⁶ Rejoice always, ¹⁷ pray constantly, ¹⁸ give thanks in everything; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

⁷ And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds* in Christ Jesus.

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba!* Father!"

³ For although we* are living in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, ⁴ for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but powerful to God for the tearing down of fortresses, tearing down arguments ⁵ and all pride that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

⁶ So then, we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.* What will man do to me?"*

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength. ¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil, ¹² because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. ¹³ Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and binding shoes under your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace, ¹⁶ in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one, ¹⁷ and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, ¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, ¹⁹ and for me, that a word may be given to me at the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰ for the sake of which I am an ambassador in chains, that _⌊in them_⌋* I may speak freely, as it is necessary for me to speak.

¹ One who lives in the secret place* of the Most High will lodge in the shadow of Shaddai.* ² I will say to Yahweh, "You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust." ³ For he will deliver* you from the snare of the fowler, from the plague of destruction. ⁴ With his feathers he will cover you, and under his wings you can take refuge. His faithfulness will be a shield and a buckler.* ⁵ You need not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day, ⁶ or the plague that spreads in the darkness, or the destruction that devastates at noon. ⁷ A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. ⁸ You will only look with your eyes, and see the punishment of the wicked. ⁹ For you, O Yahweh, are my refuge. You have made the Most High your dwelling place.* ¹⁰ No harm will befall you, and no plague will come near your tent. ¹¹ For he will command his angels concerning you, to watch over you in all your ways. ¹² In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. ¹³ You will tread on lion and viper; you will trample young lion and serpent. ¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect* him because he knows my name. ¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue and honor him. ¹⁶ With _⌊long life_⌋* I will satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

¹⁸ There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear includes punishment, and the one who is afraid has not been perfected in love.

⁹ Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you _⌊wherever you go_⌋."*

⁵ _⌊Trust Yahweh_⌋* with all your heart; do not lean toward your own understanding.

⁷ For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-discipline.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ⁷ And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds* in Christ Jesus.
