1 Peter 5:8

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

James 4:4

4 You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

James 2:1-13

1 My brothers, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in good apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing; 3 And you have respect to him that wears the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit you here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool: 4 Are you not then partial in yourselves, and have become judges of evil thoughts? 5 Hearken, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? 6 But you have looked down upon the poor. Do not rich men oppres you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called? 8 If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well: 9 But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.

Luke 6:26

26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Romans 12:2

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Luke 14:7-14

7 And he put forth a parable to those which were invited, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them. 8 When you are invited of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honorable man than you be invited of him; 9 And he that bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man place; and you begin with shame to take the lowest room. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade you comes, he may say unto you, Friend, go up higher: then shall you have worship in the presence of them that sit at food with you. 11 For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. 12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When you make a dinner or a supper, call not your friends, nor your brothers, neither your kinsmen, nor your rich neighbors; lest they also invite you again, and a recompense be made you. 13 But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14 And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: for you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Luke 9:25

25 For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
