¹⁰ The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² The same was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made by him; and outside him was not any thing made that was made. ⁴ In him was life; and the life was the light of men. ⁵ And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. ⁸ He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. ⁹ That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹ He came unto his own, and his own received him not. ¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: ¹³ Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ John bore witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. ¹⁶ And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. ¹⁹ And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you? ²⁰ And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he says, I am not. Are you that prophet? And he answered, No. ²² Then said they unto him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What say you of yourself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah. ²⁴ And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why do you baptize then, if you be not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there stands one among you, whom you know not; ²⁷ He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day John sees Jesus coming unto him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. ³¹ And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. ³² And John bore record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. ³³ And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. ³⁴ And I saw, and bore record that this is the Son of God. ³⁵ Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; ³⁶ And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he says, Behold the Lamb of God! ³⁷ And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. ³⁸ Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and says unto them, What do you seek? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where do you dwell? ³⁹ He says unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelled, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. ⁴⁰ One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first finds his own brother Simon, and says unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. ⁴² And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, You are Simon the son of Jona: you shall be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone. ⁴³ The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and finds Philip, and says unto him, Follow me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip finds Nathanael, and says unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip says unto him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and says of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! ⁴⁸ Nathanael says unto him, >From where know you me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you. ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and says unto him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto you, I saw you under the fig tree, you believe? you shall see greater things than these. ⁵¹ And he says unto him, Truthfully, truthfully, I say unto you, Hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

¹ My brothers, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. ² For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in good apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing; ³ And you have respect to him that wears the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit you here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool: ⁴ Are you not then partial in yourselves, and have become judges of evil thoughts? ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But you have looked down upon the poor. Do not rich men oppres you, and draw you before the judgment seats? ⁷ Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which you are called? ⁸ If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well: ⁹ But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you have become a transgressor of the law. ¹² So speak you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. ¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment. ¹⁴ What does it profit, my brothers, though a man say he has faith, and have not works? can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled; notwithstanding you give them not those things which are necessary to the body; what does it profit? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone. ¹⁸ Yes, a man may say, You have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. ¹⁹ You believe that there is one God; you are doing well: the devils also believe, and tremble. ²⁰ But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² See you how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ You see then that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. ²⁵ Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? ²⁶ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

¹⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cover sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

³ All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not you after their works: for they say, and do not.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

²⁶ Be you angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

¹ We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ² Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. ³ For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached you fell on me. ⁴ For whatsoever things were written earlier were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. ⁵ Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: ⁶ That you may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁷ Therefore receive you one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. ⁸ Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: ⁹ And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to you among the Gentiles, and sing unto your name. ¹⁰ And again he says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; and laud him, all you people. ¹² And again, Isaiah says, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. ¹³ Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. ¹⁴ And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brothers, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. ¹⁵ Nevertheless, brothers, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, ¹⁶ That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. ¹⁷ I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, ¹⁹ Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. ²⁰ Yes, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation: ²¹ But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand. ²² For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. ²³ But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you; ²⁴ Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way to there by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company. ²⁵ But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. ²⁶ For it has pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. ²⁷ It has pleased them truthfully; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things. ²⁸ When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain. ²⁹ And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. ³⁰ Now I beseech you, brothers, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; ³¹ That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; ³² That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. ³³ Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
