¹ Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. ² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. ³ And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. ⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
⁵ Then the devil takes him up into the holy city, and sets him on a pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ And says unto him, If you be the Son of God, cast yourself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning you: and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone. ⁷ Jesus said unto him, It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. ⁸ Again, the devil takes him up into an exceedingly high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ⁹ And says unto him, All these things will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me. ¹⁰ Then says Jesus unto him, Get you hence, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.

⁵ Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. ⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
