¹⁴ The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious of the workers of iniquity. ² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. ³ Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed. ⁴ Delight yourself also in the LORD; and he shall give you the desires of your heart. ⁵ Commit your way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

¹⁰ For my enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,

⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. ² Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help. ³ Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am your salvation. ⁴ Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. ⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them. ⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them. ⁷ For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have dug for my soul. ⁸ Let destruction come upon him unawares; and let his net that he has hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall. ⁹ And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation. ¹⁰ All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto you, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that plunders him? ¹¹ False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. ¹² They rewarded me evil for good to the sorrow of my soul. ¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourns for his mother. ¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: ¹⁶ With hypocritical mockers at feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth. ¹⁷ Lord, how long will you look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my precious life from the lions. ¹⁸ I will give you thanks in the great congregation: I will praise you among many people. ¹⁹ Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause. ²⁰ For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land. ²¹ Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it. ²² This you have seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O LORD, be not far from me. ²³ Stir up yourself, and awake to my defense, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. ²⁴ Judge me, O LORD my God, according to your righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. ²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up. ²⁶ Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me. ²⁷ Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. ²⁸ And my tongue shall speak of your righteousness and of your praise all the day long.

⁷ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me: you shall stretch forth your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand shall save me.

⁴³ You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. ⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you; ⁴⁵ That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. ⁴⁶ For if you love them who love you, what reward have you? do not even the tax collectors the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet your brethren only, what do you more than others? do not even the tax collectors so? ⁴⁸ Be you therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

³⁴ Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his clothing, and cast lots.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have dug a pit before me, into the midst of which they are fallen themselves. Selah.

²⁰ Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head.

⁶ Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.

¹⁷ Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles:

¹⁴ Bless them who persecute you: bless, and curse not.

² For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. ³ They surrounded me also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

²⁷ But I say unto you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to them who hate you, ²⁸ Bless them that curse you, and pray for them who despitefully use you. ²⁹ And unto him that smites you on the one cheek offer also the other; and he that takes away your cloak forbid not to take your coat also. ³⁰ Give to every man that asks of you; and of him that takes away your goods ask them not again. ³¹ And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them likewise. ³² For if you love them who love you, what thanks have you? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if you do good to them who do good to you, what thanks have you? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thanks have you? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. ³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be you therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
