³ But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. ⁴ Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. ⁵ But every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head: for that is one and the same as if she were shaven. ⁶ For if the woman is not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. ⁷ For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. ⁸ For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. ⁹ Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. ¹⁰ For this cause ought the woman to have authority on her head because of the angels. ¹¹ Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. ¹² For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things are of God. ¹³ Judge for yourselves: is it proper that a woman pray unto God uncovered? ¹⁴ Does not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man has long hair, it is a shame unto him? ¹⁵ But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. ¹⁶ But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

² A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

¹ Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

³ The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; ⁴ That they may teach the young women to be sensible, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

¹¹ Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. ¹² But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have authority over the man, but to be in silence.

⁸ Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of dishonest gain; ⁹ Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. ¹⁰ And let these also first be tested; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. ¹¹ Even so must their wives be serious, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. ¹² Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. ¹³ For they that have used the office of a deacon well gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

⁹ In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with decency and propriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

³ And I entreat you also, true yokefellow, help those women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other of my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life.

² That you receive her in the Lord, as becomes saints, and that you assist her in whatever business she has need of you: for she has been a helper of many, and of myself also.

²⁶ And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

³ Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:

¹ I commend unto you Phebe our sister, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: ² That you receive her in the Lord, as becomes saints, and that you assist her in whatever business she has need of you: for she has been a helper of many, and of myself also.

¹¹ Even so must their wives be serious, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

¹ I commend unto you Phebe our sister, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
