²² But flee youthful lusts, and follow after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁹ These are they who make separations, sensual, having not the Spirit.

¹⁴ as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in the time of your ignorance:

¹¹ Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul,

⁴ No soldier on service entangleth himself in the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart, ¹⁹ who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. ²⁰ But ye did not so learn Christ,

¹² But these, as creatures without reason, born mere animals to be taken and destroyed, railing in matters whereof they are ignorant, shall in their destroying be destroyed, ¹³ receiving the hire of wrong-doing, men that count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, revelling in their deceivings while they feast with you, ¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstedfast souls, having a heart exercised in covetousness, children of cursing, ¹⁵ having forsaken the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing,

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

¹² instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world,

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore would be a friend of the world maketh himself an enemy of God.

² Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth.

² And be not fashioned according to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
