² Swearing and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery! they break all bounds, and blood toucheth blood.

¹⁶ Know ye not that ye are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.

³⁴ but I say unto you, swear not at all, neither by the heaven, for it is the throne of God, ³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black. ³⁷ { But let your speech be, Yea, yea, Nay, nay; and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.

⁴⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

³⁶ And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

¹² But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by the heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay, that ye fall not into hypocrisy.

⁴ nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, which are not befitting; but rather giving of thanks. ⁵ For this ye know of a surety, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.
