Ecclesiastes 5:1-20

1 (4:17) Guard thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be ready to hearken: it is better than when fools give sacrifices; for they know not that they do evil. 2 (5:1) Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth; therefore let thy words be few. 3 (5:2) For a dream cometh through a multitude of business; and a fool's voice through a multitude of words. 4 (5:3) When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou vowest. 5 (5:4) Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. 6 (5:5) Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands? 7 (5:6) For through the multitude of dreams and vanities there are also many words; but fear thou God. 8 (5:7) If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of justice and righteousness in the state, marvel not at the matter; for one higher than the high watcheth, and there are higher than they. 9 (5:8) But the profit of a land every way is a king that maketh himself servant to the field. 10 (5:9) He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance, with increase; this also is vanity. 11 (5:10) When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, saving the beholding of them with his eyes? 12 (5:11) Sweet is the sleep of a labouring man, whether he eat little or much; but the satiety of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. 13 (5:12) There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt; 14 (5:13) and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand. 15 (5:14) As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he go back as he came, and shall take nothing for his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. 16 (5:15) And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit hath he that he laboureth for the wind? 17 (5:16) All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much vexation and sickness and wrath. 18 (5:17) Behold that which I have seen: it is good, yea, it is comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy pleasure for all his labour, wherein he laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him; for this is his portion. 19 (5:18) Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour - this is the gift of God. 20 (5:19) For let him remember the days of his life that they are not many; for God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

Psalms 37:1-40

1 A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness. 2 For they shall soon wither like the grass, and fade as the green herb. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and cherish faithfulness. 4 So shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and He shall give thee the petitions of thy heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass. 6 And He will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light, and thy right as the noonday. 7 Resign thyself unto the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing. 9 For evil-doers shall be cut off; but those that wait for the LORD, they shall inherit the land. 10 And yet a little while, and the wicked is no more; yea, thou shalt look well at his place, and he is not. 11 But the humble shall inherit the land, and delight themselves in the abundance of peace. 12 The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth at him with his teeth. 13 The Lord doth laugh at him; for He seeth that his day is coming. 14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow; to cast down the poor and needy, to slay such as are upright in the way; 15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. 16 Better is a little that the righteous hath than the abundance of many wicked. 17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; but the LORD upholdeth the righteous. 18 The LORD knoweth the days of them that are wholehearted; and their inheritance shall be for ever. 19 They shall not be ashamed in the time of evil; and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. 20 For the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs - they shall pass away in smoke, they shall pass away. 21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not; but the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth. 22 For such as are blessed of Him shall inherit the land; and they that are cursed of Him shall be cut off. 23 It is of the LORD that a man's goings are established; and He delighted in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholdeth his hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. 26 All the day long he dealeth graciously, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. 28 For the LORD loveth justice, and forsaketh not His saints; they are preserved for ever; but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. 29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. 30 The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, and his tongue speaketh justice. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps slide. 32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. 33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor suffer him to be condemned when he is judged. 34 Wait for the LORD, and keep His way, and He will exalt thee to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. 35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a leafy tree in its native soil. 36 But one passed by, and, lo, he was not; yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. 37 Mark the man of integrity, and behold the upright; for there is a future for the man of peace. 38 But transgressors shall be destroyed together; the future of the wicked shall be cut off. 39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. 40 And the LORD helpeth them, and delivereth them; He delivereth them from the wicked, and saveth them, because they have taken refuge in Him.

Matthew 6:33

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:25-34

25 Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? 26 Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? 28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin; 29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek, for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Be not therefore anxious for the morrow; for the morrow will be anxious for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
