²⁹ “Then I told you, ‘Don’t be terrified or afraid of them. ³⁰ The LORD your God is the One who will be going ahead of you. He’ll fight for you just as he did in Egypt before your eyes.

²³ Jesus Calms the Sea
When Jesus got into the boat, his disciples went with him. ²⁴ Suddenly, a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat began to be swamped by the waves. Yet Jesus kept sleeping. ²⁵ They went to him and woke him up. “Lord!” they cried, “Save us! We’re going to die!”
²⁶ He asked them, “Why are you afraid, you who have little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

¹⁸ so that by these two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to prove false, we who have taken refuge in him might be encouraged to seize the hope set before us.

¹ Rules of War“When you go to war against your enemies and observe more horses, chariots, and soldiers than you have, don’t be afraid of them, for the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt is with you. ² As you draw near for battle, let the priest approach and speak to the army. ³ He will say to them, ‘Listen, Israel! You’re about to go into battle today against your enemies. Don’t be faint-hearted. Don’t be afraid, don’t panic, and don’t be terrified to face them.

²⁴ Before they call, I will answer, while they are still speaking, I’ll hear.

³⁶ But when Jesus heard what they said, he told the synagogue leader, “Stop being afraid! Just keep on believing.”

⁷ The LORD’s Goodness in the Midst of JudgmentThe LORD is good— a refuge in troubled times. He knows those who are confiding in him.

⁶ This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard and delivered him from all of his distress.

¹⁴ Wait on the LORD. Be courageous, and he will strengthen your heart. Wait on the LORD!

¹ A Davidic Psalm
God is My Refuge The one who lives in the shelter of the Most High, who rests in the shadow of the Almighty, ² will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge, my fortress, and my God in whom I trust!” ³ He will surely deliver you from the hunter’s snare and from the destructive plague. ⁴ With his feathers he will cover you, under his wings you will find safety. His truth is your shield and armor. ⁵ You need not fear terror that stalks in the night, the arrow that flies in the day, ⁶ plague that strikes in the darkness, or calamity that destroys at noon. ⁷ If a thousand fall at your side or ten thousand at your right hand, it will not overcome you. ⁸ Only observe it with your eyes, and you will see how the wicked are paid back. ⁹ “LORD, you are my refuge!” Because you chose the Most High as your dwelling place, ¹⁰ no evil will fall upon you, and no affliction will approach your tent, ¹¹ for he will command his angels to protect you in all your ways. ¹² With their hands they will lift you up so you will not trip over a stone. ¹³ You will stomp on lions and snakes; you will trample young lions and serpents.
¹⁴ The LORD SpeaksBecause he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. ¹⁵ When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him. ¹⁶ I will satisfy him with long life; I will show him my deliverance.

⁶ Never worry about anything. Instead, in every situation let your petitions be made known to God through prayers and requests, with thanksgiving.

⁷ Throw all your worry on him, because he cares for you.
