¹ BOOK I (Psalms 1-41)
The Righteous and the Wicked How blessed is the person, who does not take the advice of the wicked, who does not stand on the path with sinners, and who does not sit in the seat of mockers. ² But he delights in the LORD’s instruction, and meditates in his instruction day and night. ³ He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in its season, and whose leaf does not wither. He will prosper in everything he does. ⁴ But this is not the case with the wicked. They are like chaff that the wind blows away. ⁵ Therefore the wicked will not escape judgment, nor will sinners have a place in the assembly of the righteous. ⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will be destroyed.

⁵ He established a decree in Jacob, and established the Law in Israel, that he commanded our ancestors to reveal to their children ⁶ in order that the next generation— children yet to be born— will know them and in turn teach them to their children. ⁷ Then they will put their trust in God and they will not forget his awesome deeds. Instead, they will keep his commandments. ⁸ They will not be like the rebellious generation of their ancestors, a rebellious generation, whose heart was not steadfast, and whose spirits were unfaithful to God.

¹⁰ Grab hold of my instruction in lieu of money and knowledge instead of the finest gold, ¹¹ because wisdom is better than precious gems and nothing you desire can compare to it.”

³ Entrust your work to the LORD, and your planning will succeed.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is where wisdom begins, and knowing holiness demonstrates understanding.

¹⁶ They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to the world.
¹⁷ “Sanctify them by the truth. Your word is truth.

²⁰ Final GreetingTimothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the pointless discussions and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge.

⁸ See to it that no one enslaves you through philosophy and empty deceit according to human tradition, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to the Messiah,

¹⁴ But as for you, continue in what you have learned and found to be true, because you know from whom you learned it. ¹⁵ From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to give you the wisdom you need for salvation through faith in the Messiah Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, ¹⁷ so that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good action.

¹ Advice for Children and ParentsChildren, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. ² “Honor your father and mother…” (This is a very important commandment with a promise.) ³ “…so that it may go well for you, and that you may have a long life on the earth.”
⁴ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up by training and instructing them about the Lord.

¹⁵ From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures that are able to give you the wisdom you need for salvation through faith in the Messiah Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

⁵⁸ Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, unmovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that the work that you do for the Lord isn’t wasted.

⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is fair, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—keep thinking about these things.

¹⁵ Wise BehaviorSo, then, be careful how you live. Do not be unwise but wise, ¹⁶ making the best use of your time because the times are evil. ¹⁷ Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

² Do not be conformed to this world, but continuously be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God’s will is—what is proper, pleasing, and perfect.

⁵ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to everyone generously without a rebuke, and it will be given to him.

⁸ The Minor ThemeMy son, listen to your father’s instruction, and do not let go of your mother’s teaching.

¹⁵ I’m not asking you to take them out of the world but to protect them from the evil one.

³³ Stop being deceived: “Wicked friends lead to evil ends.”

⁵ You are to love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. ⁶ Let these words that I’m commanding you today be always on your heart. ⁷ Teach them repeatedly to your children. Talk about them while sitting in your house or walking on the road, and as you lie down or get up. ⁸ Tie them as reminders on your forearm, bind them on your forehead, ⁹ and write them on the door frames of your house and on your gates.”

⁶ Train a child in the way appropriate for him, and when he becomes older, he will not turn from it.
