⁶ You’ll hear of wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you aren’t alarmed. These things must take place, but the end hasn’t come yet,

²¹ because at that time there will be great suffering, the kind that hasn’t happened from the beginning of the world until now and certainly won’t ever happen again. ²² If those days hadn’t been limited, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be limited.

¹ Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man
After getting into a boat, Jesus crossed to the other side and came to his own city. ² All at once some people brought him a paralyzed man lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he told the paralyzed man, “Be courageous, son! Your sins are forgiven.”
³ Then some of the scribes told themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
⁴ But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking, replied, “Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts? ⁵ Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? ⁶ But so you will know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” he told the paralyzed man, “Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home!”
⁷ So the man got up and went home. ⁸ When the crowds saw this, they became frightened and glorified God for giving such authority to humans.
⁹ Jesus Calls Matthew
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s desk and told him, “Follow me.” So he got up and followed him.
¹⁰ While he was having dinner at Matthew’s home, many tax collectors and sinners arrived and began eating with Jesus and his disciples. ¹¹ The Pharisees saw this and asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
¹² When Jesus heard that, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a physician, but sick people do. ¹³ Go and learn what this means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice,’ because I did not come to call righteous people, but sinners.”
¹⁴ A Question about Fasting
Then John’s disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”
¹⁵ Jesus asked them, “The wedding guests can’t mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
¹⁶ The Unshrunk Cloth
“No one patches an old garment with a piece of unshrunk cloth, because the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results. ¹⁷ Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill out, and the skins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”
¹⁸ Jesus Heals a Woman and Resurrects a Girl
While Jesus was telling them these things, an official came up and fell down before him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” ¹⁹ So Jesus got up and followed him, along with his disciples.
²⁰ Just then a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel of his garment, ²¹ because she had been saying to herself, “If I just touch his robe, I will get well.”
²² When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, “Be courageous, daughter! Your faith has made you well.” And from that very hour the woman was well.
²³ When Jesus came to the official’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, ²⁴ he said, “Go away! The young lady hasn’t died, but is sleeping.” But they ridiculed him with laughter. ²⁵ When the crowd had been driven outside, he went in, took her by the hand, and the young lady got up. ²⁶ The news of this spread throughout that land.
²⁷ Jesus Heals Two Blind MenAs Jesus was traveling on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” ²⁸ When he had gone into the house, the blind men came to him.
Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can do this?”
They told him, “Yes, Lord!”
²⁹ Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith, let it be done for you!” ³⁰ And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly told them, “See to it that nobody knows about this.” ³¹ But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that region.
³² Jesus Heals a Man who Couldn’t TalkAs the men were going out, a man who couldn’t talk because he was demon-possessed was brought to him. ³³ As soon as the demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”
³⁴ But the Pharisees kept saying, “He drives out demons by the ruler of demons.”
³⁵ The Compassion of JesusThen Jesus began traveling throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness. ³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he was deeply moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
³⁷ Then he told his disciples, “The harvest is vast, but the workers are few. ³⁸ So ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”

³⁶ So be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to take your stand in the presence of the Son of Man.”

¹ The Spirit Gives LifeTherefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in union with the Messiah Jesus.

³⁸ Peter answered them, “Every one of you must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus the Messiah for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.

¹ Jesus the Way to the Father “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. ² There are many rooms in my Father’s house. If there weren’t, I wouldn’t have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you, would I? ³ And since I’m going away to prepare a place for you, I’ll come back again and welcome you into my presence, so that you may be where I am. ⁴ You know where I am going, and you know the way.”
⁵ Thomas asked him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
⁶ Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ⁷ If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him and have seen him.”
⁸ Philip told him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us.”
⁹ “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me?” Jesus asked him. “The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰ You believe, don’t you, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I don’t speak on my own. It is the Father who dwells in me and who carries out his work. ¹¹ Believe me, I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of what I’ve been doing. ¹² Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the one who believes in me will also do what I’m doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I’m going to the Father. ¹³ I’ll do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it.”
¹⁵ The Promise of the Helper“If you love me, keep my commandments. ¹⁶ I will ask the Father to give you another Helper, to be with you always. ¹⁷ He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you. ¹⁸ I’m not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you.
¹⁹ “In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. ²⁰ At that time, you’ll know that I am in my Father, that you are in me, and that I am in you. ²¹ The person who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I, too, will love him and reveal myself to him.”
²² Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, “Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”
²³ Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him. ²⁴ The one who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The words that you’re hearing me say are not mine, but come from the Father who sent me.
²⁵ “I have told you this while I am still with you. ²⁶ But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything that I have told you. ²⁷ I’m leaving you at peace. I’m giving you my own peace. I’m not giving it to you as the world gives. So don’t let your hearts be troubled, and don’t be afraid. ²⁸ You have heard me tell you, ‘I’m going away, but I’m coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I’m going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. ²⁹ I’ve told you this now, before I leave, so that when I do leave, you will believe. ³⁰ I won’t talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me. ³¹ But I’m doing what the Father has commanded me, to let the world know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us leave this place.”

¹ Prayer and Submission to AuthorityFirst of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people, ² for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God and that the whole world lies under the control of the evil one.

¹ Stop Fighting with Each OtherWhere do those fights and quarrels among you come from? They come from your selfish desires that are at war in your bodies, don’t they? ² You want something but do not get it, so you commit murder. You covet something but cannot obtain it, so you quarrel and fight. You do not get things because you do not ask for them!

¹¹ For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope.

¹³ But the person who endures to the end will be saved.

³³ I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you’ll have trouble, but be courageous—I’ve overcome the world!”

¹⁹ And my God will fully supply your every need according to his glorious riches in the Messiah Jesus.

⁹ but he has told me, “My grace is all you need, because my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most happily boast about my weaknesses, so that the Messiah’s power may rest on me.

¹⁷ The LORD hears those who cry out, and he delivers them from all their distress. ¹⁸ The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, and he delivers those whose spirit has been crushed. ¹⁹ A righteous person will have many troubles, but the LORD will deliver him from them all. ²⁰ God protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken.
