20 For I tell you that unless your uprightness is far superior to that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never even enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
21 "You have heard that the men of old were told 'You shall not murder,' and 'Whoever murders will have to answer to the court.'
22 But I tell you that anyone who gets angry with his brother will have to answer to the court, and anyone who speaks contemptuously to his brother will have to answer to the great council, and anyone who says to his brother 'You cursed fool!' will have to answer for it in the fiery pit!
23 So when you are presenting your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother has any grievance against you,
24 leave your gift right there before the altar and go and make up with your brother; then come back and present your gift.
25 Be quick and come to terms with your opponent while you are on the way to court with him, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison.
26 I tell you, you will never get out again until you have paid the last penny!
27 "You have heard that men were told 'You shall not commit adultery.'
28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman with desire has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 But if your right eye makes you fall, tear it out and throw it away, for you might better lose one part of your body than have it all thrown into the pit!
30 If your right hand makes you fall, cut it off and throw it away, for you might better lose one part of your body than have it all go down to the pit!
31 "They were told, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.'
32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife on any ground, except unfaithfulness, makes her commit adultery, and anyone who marries her after she is divorced commits adultery.
33 "Again, you have heard that the men of old were told, 'You shall not swear falsely, but you must fulfil your oaths to the Lord.'
34 But I tell you not to swear at all, either by heaven, for it is God's throne,
35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king.
36 You must not swear by your own head, for you cannot make one single hair white or black.
37 But your way of speaking must be 'Yes' or 'No.' Anything that goes beyond that comes from the evil one.
38 "You have heard that they were told, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'
39 But I tell you not to resist injury, but if anyone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other to him too;
40 and if anyone wants to sue you for your shirt, let him have your coat too.
41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 If anyone begs from you, give to him, and when anyone wants to borrow from you, do not turn away.
43 "You have heard that they were told, 'You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for your persecutors,
45 so that you may show yourselves true sons of your Father in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on bad and good alike, and makes the rain fall on the upright and the wrongdoers.
46 For if you love only those who love you, what reward can you expect? Do not the very tax-collectors do that?
47 And if you are polite to your brothers and no one else, what is there remarkable in that? Do not the very heathen do that?
48 So you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is.

Matthew 5:20-48
2 John 1:9
9 Anyone who goes too far and does not keep to the teaching of Christ has not God. It is the man who holds to the teaching who has both the Father and the Son.
Luke 6:46
46 Why do you call me: 'Lord! Lord!' and not do what I tell you?
John 14:15
15 "If you really love me, you will observe my commands.
Matthew 23:1-4
1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples,
2 "The scribes and Pharisees have taken Moses' seat.
3 So do everything they tell you, and observe it all, but do not do as they do, for they talk but do not act.
4 They tie up heavy loads and have them put on men's shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them.
Matthew 23:23-28
23 "Alas for you, you hypocritical scribes and Pharisees, for you pay tithes on mint, dill, and cummin, and you have let the weightier matters of the Law go—justice, mercy, and integrity. But you should have observed these, without overlooking the others.
24 You blind guides! straining out the gnat, and yet swallowing the camel!
25 Alas for you, you hypocritical scribes and Pharisees, for you clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
26 You blind Pharisee! You must first clean the inside of the cup and the dish, so that the outside may be clean too.
27 Alas for you, you hypocritical scribes and Pharisees, for you are like white-washed tombs! They look well on the outside, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead, and all that is unclean.
28 So you outwardly appear to men to be upright, but within you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
Romans 3:28
28 For we hold that a man is made upright by faith; the observance of the Law has nothing to do with it.
Galatians 2:21
21 I refuse to nullify the mercy of God. For if uprightness could be secured through law, then Christ died for nothing!
Galatians 3:10-14
10 For there is a curse upon all who rely on obedience to the Law, for the Scripture says, "Cursed be anyone who does not stand by everything that is written in the Book of the Law and obey it."
11 That no one is accepted as upright by God for obeying the Law is evident because the upright will have life because of his faith,
12 and the Law has nothing to do with faith; it teaches that it is the man who does these things that will find life by doing them.
13 Christ ransomed us from the Law's curse by taking our curse upon himself (for the Scripture says, "Cursed be anyone who is hung on a tree")
14 in order that the blessing given to Abraham might through Jesus Christ reach the heathen, so that through faith we might receive the promised Spirit.
John 6:28-29
Galatians 2:16
16 but who know that a man is not made upright by doing what the Law commands, but by faith in Christ Jesus—even we believed in Christ Jesus, so as to be made upright by faith in Christ and not by doing what the Law commands—for by doing what the Law commands no one can be made upright.
