¹⁹ When it was evening on that first day after the Sabbath, and the doors of the house where the disciples met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came in and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you!" ²⁰ Then he showed them his hands and his side, and the disciples were full of joy at seeing the Master. ²¹ Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you! Just as my Father sent me forth so I now send you." ²² As he said this he breathed upon them, and said, ²³ "Receive the holy Spirit! If you forgive any men's sins, they are forgiven them, and if you fix any men's sins upon them, they will remain fixed."

¹¹ And he has given us some men as apostles, some as prophets, some as missionaries, some as pastors and teachers,

⁶ But I would have you know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth." Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your bed and go home!" ⁷ And he got up and went home. ⁸ And when the crowd saw it, they were filled with awe, and praised God for giving such power to men.

¹ You must follow my example in this, as I am following Christ's. ² I appreciate your always remembering me, and your standing by the things I passed on to you, just as you received them.

⁵ I left you behind in Crete expressly to correct what defects there were, and to appoint elders in each town, as I directed you—
