³¹ And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.

¹ Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, ² as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation; ³ if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious: ⁴ unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious, ⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ⁶ Because it is contained in scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame. ⁷ For you therefore which believe is the preciousness: but for such as disbelieve, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; ⁸ and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. ⁹ But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for [God’s] own possession, that ye may shew forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: ¹⁰ which in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. ¹¹ Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; ¹² having your behaviour seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. ¹³ Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; ¹⁴ or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ as free, and not using your freedom for a cloke of wickedness, but as bondservants of God. ¹⁷ Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. ¹⁸ Servants, [be] in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. ¹⁹ For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted [for it], ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer [for it], ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. ²¹ For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps: ²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: ²³ who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously: ²⁴ who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. ²⁵ For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.

² For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

⁹ Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men,

⁴ For there are certain men crept in privily, [even] they who were of old set forth unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

¹ My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: ² and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. ³ And hereby know we that we know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him: ⁵ but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby know we that we are in him: ⁶ he that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked. ⁷ Beloved, no new commandment write I unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: the old commandment is the word which ye heard. ⁸ Again, a new commandment write I unto you, which thing is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shineth. ⁹ He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in the darkness even until now. ¹⁰ He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes. ¹² I write unto you, [my] little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. ¹³ I write unto you, fathers, because ye know him which is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil one. I have written unto you, little children, because ye know the Father. ¹⁴ I have written unto you, fathers, because ye know him which is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the evil one. ¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the vainglory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. ¹⁸ Little children, it is the last hour: and as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now have there arisen many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last hour. ¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us: but [they went out], that they might be made manifest how that they all are not of us. ²⁰ And ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all things. ²¹ I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and because no lie is of the truth. ²² Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, [even] he that denieth the Father and the Son. ²³ Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also. ²⁴ As for you, let that abide in you which ye heard from the beginning. If that which ye heard from the beginning abide in you, ye also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father. ²⁵ And this is the promise which he promised us, [even] the life eternal. ²⁶ These things have I written unto you concerning them that would lead you astray. ²⁷ And as for you, the anointing which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him. ²⁸ And now, [my] little children, abide in him; that, if he shall be manifested, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. ²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one also that doeth righteousness is begotten of him.

²² Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

¹⁰ For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things [done] in the body, according to what he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.

¹⁴ but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.
