⁹ Drink no wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tent of meeting, that ye die not: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

²⁰ Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh: ²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.

²² Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

¹¹ Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them!

⁷ Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God hath already accepted thy works.

³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

⁸ Deacons in like manner [must be] grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these], fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they which practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁴ He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man; that he may bring forth food out of the earth: ¹⁵ And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, [and] oil to make his face to shine, and bread that strengtheneth man’s heart.

⁶ And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. ⁷ And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering that is cast over all peoples, and the veil that is spread over all nations. ⁸ He hath swallowed up death for ever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. ⁹ And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

¹ Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. ¹⁹ The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her works.

²¹ It is good not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor [to do anything] whereby thy brother stumbleth.

²³ Be no longer a drinker of water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

²⁹ Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? ³⁰ They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek out mixed wine. ³¹ Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it goeth down smoothly. ³² At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. ³³ Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thine heart shall utter froward things. ³⁴ Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. ³⁵ They have stricken me, [shalt thou say], and I was not hurt; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

¹ Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler; and whosoever erreth thereby is not wise.

⁹ Or know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with men, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye were washed, but ye were sanctified, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

¹⁸ And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;
