Deuteronomy 21:15-17

15 ¶ When a man has two wives, one beloved and the other hated, and they have born him sons, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son is of the one that was hated, 16 then it shall be, when he makes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not give the right of the firstborn unto the son of the beloved in preference over the son of the hated, who is indeed the firstborn; 17 but he shall acknowledge the son of the hated as the firstborn by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

Luke 12:13-21

13 ¶ And one of the crowd said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. 14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? 15 And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. 16 And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully; 17 and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my storehouses and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up? 21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

Luke 15:25-31

25 Now his elder son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come, and thy father has killed the fatted calf because he has received him safe and sound. 28 And he was angry and would not go in, therefore his father came out and intreated him. 29 And he, answering, said to his father, Behold, these many years I have served thee, neither at any time have I transgressed thy commandment; and yet thou never gavest me a kid that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this thy son was come who has devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed the fatted calf for him. 31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art always with me, and all that I have is thine.
