⁷ ¶ And observing how they chose the first seats at the table, he put forth a parable to those who were invited, saying unto them, ⁸ When thou art called to a wedding by anyone, do not sit down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited of him, ⁹ and he that called thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place, and thou begin with shame to have the lowest place. ¹⁰ But when thou art called, go and sit down in the lowest place that when he that invited thee comes, he may say unto thee, Friend, come up higher; then shalt thou have glory in the presence of those that sit at the table with thee. ¹¹ For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. ¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, ¹⁴ and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

²³ for all have sinned and are made destitute of the glory of God,

¹⁰ That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death,

⁹ Not of works, lest any man should boast.

¹⁵ Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that has nothing to be ashamed of, rightly dividing the word of truth.

¹⁰ But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou belittle thy brother? for we shall all stand before the tribunal of the Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

² as newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health;

²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

¹⁷ Listen to your pastors, and do not resist them, for they watch for your souls as those that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief; for that is unprofitable for you.

¹⁰⁵ ¶ NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my way.

¹¹ ¶ The fool gives full rein to his spirit, but the wise man in the end will bring it into rest.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of the heavens.

⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

²¹ So then, leave all uncleanness and remains of malice and receive with meekness the word ingested within you, which is able to cause your souls to be saved.

² That they speak evil of no one, that they not be contentious, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.

⁸ For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God,

² ¶ with all humility and meekness, with tolerance, forbearing one another in love,

⁸ ¶ But now put ye also off all these things: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; ²⁰ for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.
