¹⁴ The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall be still.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Aleph Do not be angry with the evildoers, neither be thou envious of the workers of iniquity. ² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb. ³ Beth Wait in the LORD and do good; live in the land and uphold the truth. ⁴ In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart. ⁵ Gimel Turn thy way unto the LORD and wait in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

¹⁰ For my enemies speak against me, and those that lay in wait for my soul take counsel together,

⁷ ¶ When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Plead my cause, O LORD, with those that strive with me; fight against those that fight against me. ² Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up in my help. ³ Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against those that persecute me; say unto my soul; I am thy saving health. ⁴ Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul; let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. ⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of the LORD chase them. ⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of the LORD persecute them. ⁷ For without cause they have hid their net for me in a pit, which without cause they have dug for my soul. ⁸ Let destruction come upon him at unawares, and let his net that he has hid catch himself; into that very destruction let him fall. ⁹ And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD; it shall rejoice in his saving health. ¹⁰ All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoils him? ¹¹ ¶ False witnesses rose up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. ¹² They rewarded me evil for good until my soul was alone. ¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer rose up in my bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one that mourns for his mother. ¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; yea, the smiters gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they tore me apart and did not cease: ¹⁶ With immature hypocritical mockers, they gnashed upon me with their teeth. ¹⁷ ¶ Lord, how long wilt thou look on? Restore my soul from their destructions, my life from the lions. ¹⁸ I will give thee thanks in the great congregation; I will praise thee among many people. ¹⁹ Let not those that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those that hate me wink with the eye without a cause. ²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful matters against those that are meek in the land. ²¹ Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me and said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it. ²² This thou hast seen, O LORD; do not keep silence; O Lord, do not be far from me. ²³ Stir up thyself and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. ²⁴ Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. ²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it; let them not say, We have swallowed him up. ²⁶ Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at my hurt; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me. ²⁷ Let them shout for joy and be glad that favour my righteous cause; let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the peace of his slave. ²⁸ And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.

⁷ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me; thou shalt stretch forth thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

⁴³ ¶ Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. ⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you; ⁴⁵ that ye may be sons of your Father who is in the heavens, for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. ⁴⁶ For if ye love those who love you, what reward shall ye have? Do not even the publicans the same? ⁴⁷ And if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so? ⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.

³⁴ Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment and cast lots.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me, into the midst of which they are fallen themselves. Selah.

²⁰ Therefore, if thine enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink; for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

⁶ Be strong and of a good courage; fear not, nor be afraid of them, for the LORD thy God is he that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee nor forsake thee.

¹⁷ ¶ Do not rejoice when thy enemy falls, and do not let thy heart be glad when he stumbles

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you: bless, and do not curse.

² for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me; they have spoken of me with a lying tongue. ³ They compassed me about with words of hatred and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ They have responded to my love by becoming my adversaries, but I give myself unto prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

²⁷ ¶ But I say unto you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, ²⁸ bless those that curse you, and pray for those who despitefully use you. ²⁹ And unto the one that smites thee on the one cheek offer also the other, and to the one that takes away thy cloak defend not thy coat also. ³⁰ Give to everyone that asks of thee, and of the one that takes away thy goods ask them not to return them. ³¹ And as ye desire that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. ³² For if ye love those who love you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to those who do good to you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again. ³⁵ But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
