¹⁷ This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind: ¹⁸ Having their understanding darkened: being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts. ¹⁹ Who despairing have given themselves up to lasciviousness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto covetousness. ²⁰ But you have not so learned Christ:

²² But flee thou youthful desires, and pursue justice, faith, charity and peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁹ These are they who separate themselves, sensual men, having not the Spirit.

¹⁴ As children of obedience, not fashioned according to the former desires of your ignorance,

¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech you, as strangers and pilgrims, to refrain yourselves from carnal desires which war against the soul,

⁴ No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses: that he may please him to whom he hath engaged himself.

¹² But these men, as irrational beasts, naturally tending to the snare and to destruction, blaspheming those things which they know not, shall perish in their corruption: ¹³ Receiving the reward of their injustice, counting for a pleasure the delights of a day: stains and spots, sporting themselves to excess, rioting in their feasts with you: ¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery and of sin that ceaseth not: alluring unstable souls: having their heart exercised with covetousness: children of malediction. ¹⁵ Leaving the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor who loved the wages of iniquity,

¹⁹ If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

¹² Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly and justly and godly in this world,

¹⁵ Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life, which is not of the Father but is of the world.

⁴ Adulterers, know you not that the friendship of this world is the enemy of God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of this world becometh an enemy of God.

² Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth.

² And be not conformed to this world: but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.

¹⁵ Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life, which is not of the Father but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passeth away and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God abideth for ever.
