⁷ And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them: ⁸ When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him: ⁹ And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee: Give this man place. And then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place. ¹⁰ But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee. ¹¹ Because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. ¹² And he said to him also that had invited him: When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren nor thy kinsmen nor thy neighbours who are rich; lest perhaps they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made to thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind. ¹⁴ And thou shalt be blessed, because they have not wherewith to make thee recompense: for recompense shall be made thee at the resurrection of the just.

¹⁰ That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings: being made conformable to his death,

²³ For all have sinned and do need the glory of God.

⁹ Not of works, that no man may glory.

¹⁰ But thou, why judgest thou thy brother? Or thou, why dost thou despise thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. ¹¹ For it is written: As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² Therefore every one of us shall render account to God for himself.

² As newborn babes, desire the rational milk without guile, that thereby you may grow unto salvation:

²² But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

¹⁷ Obey your prelates and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls: that they may do this with joy and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.

¹⁵ Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

¹¹ A fool uttereth all his mind: a wise man deferreth, and keepeth it till afterwards.

¹⁰⁵ Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my paths.

²⁹ Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: And you shall find rest to your souls.

⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven.

⁶ Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation:

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all iniquity.

²¹ Wherefore, casting away all uncleanness and abundance of naughtiness, with meekness receive the ingrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

⁸ For by grace you are saved through faith: and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God.

² To speak evil of no man, not to be litigious but gentle: shewing all mildness towards all men.

² With all humility and mildness, with patience, supporting one another in charity.

⁸ But now put you also all away: anger, indignation, malice, blasphemy, filthy speech out of your mouth.

¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled: and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

¹⁹ You know, my dearest brethren. And let every man be swift to hear, but slow to speak and slow to anger. ²⁰ For the anger of man worketh not the justice of God.
