^{17 (34:18)} The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles. ^{18 (34:19)} The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he will save the humble of spirit. ^{19 (34:20)} Many are the afflictions of the just; but out of them all will the Lord deliver them.

⁴ For what things soever were written were written for our learning: that, through patience and the comfort of the scriptures, we might have hope.

²⁸ And we know that to them that love God all things work together unto good: to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints.

¹² And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

¹⁰ But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience, ¹¹ Persecutions, afflictions: such as came upon me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra: what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹² And all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

⁸ But if any man have not care of his own and especially of those of his house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

¹³ But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

³⁵ Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation? Or distress? Or famine? Or nakedness? Or danger? Or persecution? Or the sword? ³⁶ (As it is written: For thy sake, we are put to death all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) ³⁷ But in all these things we overcome, because of him that hath loved us. ³⁸ For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor might, ³⁹ Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹⁸ If the world hate you, know ye that it hath hated me before you. ¹⁹ If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² My brethren, count it all joy, when you shall fall into divers temptations: ³ Knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience ⁴ And patience hath a perfect work: that you may be perfect and entire, failing in nothing.
