²⁶ And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth.

¹ On the first day of the week, a psalm for David. The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof: the world, and all they that dwell therein. ² For he hath founded it upon the seas; and hath prepared it upon the rivers. ³ Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord: or who shall stand in his holy place? ⁴ The innocent in hands, and clean of heart, who hath not taken his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbour. ⁵ He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Saviour. ⁶ This is the generation of them that seek him, of them that seek the face of the God of Jacob. ⁷ Lift up your gates, O ye princes, and be ye lifted up, O eternal gates: and the King of Glory shall enter in. ⁸ Who is this King of Glory? the Lord who is strong and mighty: the Lord mighty in battle. ⁹ Lift up your gates, O ye princes, and be ye lifted up, O eternal gates: and the King of Glory shall enter in. ¹⁰ Who is this King of Glory? the Lord of hosts, he is the King of Glory.

³ Who healeth the broken of heart, and bindeth up their bruises.

¹ The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me: he hath sent me to preach to the meek, to heal the contrite of heart, and to preach a release to the captives, and deliverance to them that are shut up.

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of affliction, to give you an end and patience.

¹ At that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying: Who, thinkest thou, is the greater in the kingdom of heaven? ² And Jesus, calling unto him a little child, set him in the midst of them. ³ And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven. ⁵ And he that shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.

²⁸ For I say to you: Amongst those that are born of men, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist. But he that is the lesser in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

²⁸ Even as the Son of man is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a redemption for many.

²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said: You know that the princes of the Gentiles lord it over them; and that they that are the greater, exercise power upon them. ²⁶ It shall not be so among you: but whosoever is the greater among you, let him be your minister. ²⁷ And he that will be first among you shall be your servant. ²⁸ Even as the Son of man is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a redemption for many.

¹⁰ Neither be ye called masters: for one is your master, Christ. ¹¹ He that is the greatest among you shall be your servant. ¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled: and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

²⁰ And I live, now not I: but Christ liveth in me. And that I live now in the flesh: I live in the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and delivered himself for me.

²⁸ And we know that to them that love God all things work together unto good: to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints.

¹ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. ² And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. ³ And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. ⁴ Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely, is not puffed up, ⁵ Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil: ⁶ Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth: ⁷ Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. ⁸ Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void or tongues shall cease or knowledge shall be destroyed. ⁹ For we know in part: and we prophesy in part. ¹⁰ But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child. ¹² We see now through a glass in a dark manner: but then face to face. Now I know in part: but then I shall know even as I am known. ¹³ And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three: but the greatest of these is charity.

¹⁷ Because the Lord your God he is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, a great God and mighty and terrible, who accepteth no person nor taketh bribes.

^{6 (8:7)} And hast set him over the works of thy hands.

¹⁵ For he shall be great before the Lord and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

⁵ God shall thunder wonderfully with his voice, he that doth great and unsearchable things.

²¹ Thou hast multiplied thy magnificence; and turning to me thou hast comforted me.

² And be not conformed to this world: but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.

¹³ I can do all things in him who strengtheneth me.
