⁴ Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. ⁵ Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: ⁶ And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments.

¹⁹ Now when it was late the same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said to them: Peace be to you. ²⁰ And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. ²¹ He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. ²² When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. ²³ Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained. ²⁴ Now Thomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

⁵ For there is one God: and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus:

¹⁸ And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
