¹⁰ Whatsoever thy hand is able to do, do it earnestly: for neither work, nor reason, nor wisdom, nor knowledge shall be in hell, whither thou art hastening.

¹ But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you: ² For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord shall so come as a thief in the night. ³ For when they shall say: Peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape. ⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵ For all you are the children of light and children of the day: we are not of the night nor of darkness. ⁶ Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do: but let us watch, and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breast plate of faith and charity and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation. ⁹ For God hath not appointed us unto wrath: but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰ Who died for us: that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him. ¹¹ For which cause comfort one another and edify one another, as you also do.

¹¹ Of whom we have much to say and hard to be intelligibly uttered: because you are become weak to hear. ¹² For whereas for the time you ought to be masters, you have need to be taught again what are the first elements of the words of God: and you are become such as have need of milk and not of strong meat.

¹⁷ He that hath the substance of this world and shall see his brother in need and shall shut up his bowels from him: how doth the charity of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that cometh to God must believe that he is: and is a rewarder to them that seek him.

³⁸ Watch ye: and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. ³⁹ And going away again, he prayed, saying the same words. ⁴⁰ And when he returned, he found them again asleep (for their eyes were heavy): and they knew not what to answer him. ⁴¹ And he cometh the third time and saith to them: Sleep ye now and take your rest. It is enough. The hour is come: behold the Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of sinners.

³⁹ Search the scriptures: for you think in them to have life everlasting. And the same are they that give testimony of me. ⁴⁰ And you will not come to me that you may have life.

¹⁷ To him therefore who knoweth to do good and doth it not, to him it is sin.

¹⁹ The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns: the way of the just is without offence.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation. Hating that which is evil, cleaving to that which is good, ¹⁰ Loving one another with the charity of brotherhood: with honour preventing one another. ¹¹ In carefulness not slothful. In spirit fervent. Serving the Lord. ¹² Rejoicing in hope. Patient in tribulation. Instant in prayer. ¹³ Communicating to the necessities of the saints. Pursuing hospitality.

¹⁶ But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

¹⁵ I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot. I would thou wert cold or hot. ¹⁶ But because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth.

¹⁰ Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of his power. ¹¹ Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. ¹² For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

³ For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears: ⁴ And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.

² Be watchful and strengthen the things that remain, which are ready to die. For I find not thy works full before my God.

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and will visit upon the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their hearts: The Lord will not do good, nor will he do evil. ¹³ And their strength shall become a booty, and their houses as a desert: and they shall build houses, and shall not dwell in them: and they shall plant vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them.

¹¹ In carefulness not slothful. In spirit fervent. Serving the Lord.
