¹⁶ Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

³² The lips of a righteous [man] know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked is frowardness.

¹⁵ But if thy brother sin against thee, go, reprove him between thee and him alone. If he hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

¹ I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made for all men; ² for kings and all that are in dignity, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and gravity; ³ for this is good and acceptable before our Saviour God, ⁴ who desires that all men should be saved and come to [the] knowledge of [the] truth. ⁵ For God is one, and [the] mediator of God and men one, [the] man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony [to be rendered] in its own times; ⁷ to which *I* have been appointed a herald and apostle, (I speak [the] truth, I do not lie,) a teacher of [the] nations in faith and truth. ⁸ I will therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up pious hands, without wrath or reasoning. ⁹ In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing, ¹⁰ but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works. ¹¹ Let a woman learn in quietness in all subjection; ¹² but I do not suffer a woman to teach nor to exercise authority over man, but to be in quietness; ¹³ for Adam was formed first, then Eve: ¹⁴ and Adam was not deceived; but the woman, having been deceived, was in transgression. ¹⁵ But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.

⁴ Love has long patience, is kind; love is not emulous [of others]; love is not insolent and rash, is not puffed up, ⁵ does not behave in an unseemly manner, does not seek what is its own, is not quickly provoked, does not impute evil,

⁸ For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things [are] true, whatsoever things [are] noble, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] amiable, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue and if any praise, think on these things.

⁶ and the tongue [is] fire, the world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set in our members, the defiler of the whole body, and which sets fire to the course of nature, and is set on fire of hell.

¹¹ A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise [man] keepeth it back.

¹³ Who [is] wise and understanding among you; let him shew out of a good conversation his works in meekness of wisdom; ¹⁴ but if ye have bitter emulation and strife in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This is not the wisdom which comes down from above, but earthly, natural, devilish. ¹⁶ For where emulation and strife [are], there [is] disorder and every evil thing. ¹⁷ But the wisdom from above first is pure, then peaceful, gentle, yielding, full of mercy and good fruits, unquestioning, unfeigned. ¹⁸ But [the] fruit of righteousness in peace is sown for them that make peace.

⁴ and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.

²³ And he went up from thence to Bethel, and as he went up by the way, there came forth little boys out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald head; go up, bald head! ²⁴ And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of Jehovah. And there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty-two children of them.

⁴ regarding not each his own [qualities], but each those of others also.

¹⁸ As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, ¹⁹ so is a man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am I not in sport?

²⁹ Let no corrupt word go out of your mouth, but if [there be] any good one for needful edification, that it may give grace to those that hear [it].
