¹⁷ The afflicted and the needy seek water, and there is none; their tongue faileth for thirst: I, Jehovah, will answer them, [I], the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

¹² And he said also to him that had invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsfolk, nor rich neighbours, lest it may be they also should invite thee in return, and a recompense be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a feast, call poor, crippled, lame, blind: ¹⁴ and thou shalt be blessed; for they have not [the means] to recompense thee; for it shall be recompensed thee in the resurrection of the just.

²⁰ And *he*, lifting up his eyes upon his disciples, said, Blessed [are] ye poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. ²¹ Blessed ye that hunger now, for ye shall be filled. Blessed ye that weep now, for ye shall laugh.

⁷ Do not wonder that I said to thee, It is needful that *ye* should be born anew. ⁸ The wind blows where it will, and thou hearest its voice, but knowest not whence it comes and where it goes: thus is every one that is born of the Spirit. ⁹ Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can these things be? ¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to him, Thou art the teacher of Israel and knowest not these things! ¹¹ Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that which we know, and we bear witness of that which we have seen, and ye receive not our witness. ¹² If I have said the earthly things to you, and ye believe not, how, if I say the heavenly things to you, will ye believe? ¹³ And no one has gone up into heaven, save he who came down out of heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. ¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, thus must the Son of man be lifted up, ¹⁵ that every one who believes on him may [not perish, but] have life eternal. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes on him may not perish, but have life eternal. ¹⁷ For God has not sent his Son into the world that he may judge the world, but that the world may be saved through him. ¹⁸ He that believes on him is not judged: but he that believes not has been already judged, because he has not believed on the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

¹² As regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering:

¹¹ And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

¹⁸ praying at all seasons, with all prayer and supplication in [the] Spirit, and watching unto this very thing with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints;

¹⁸ There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has torment, and he that fears has not been made perfect in love.

¹⁷ But whoso may have the world`s substance, and see his brother having need, and shut up his bowels from him, how abides the love of God in him?

⁸ And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he said to him, Pursue; for thou shalt assuredly overtake [them] and shalt certainly recover.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he was brought up; and he entered, according to his custom, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read. ¹⁷ And [the] book of the prophet Esaias was given to him; and having unrolled the book he found the place where it was written, ¹⁸ [The] Spirit of [the] Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach glad tidings to [the] poor; he has sent me to preach to captives deliverance, and to [the] blind sight, to send forth [the] crushed delivered, ¹⁹ to preach [the] acceptable year of [the] Lord. ²⁰ And having rolled up the book, when he had delivered it up to the attendant, he sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him. ²¹ And he began to say to them, To-day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears.

⁴⁴ And all that believed were together, and had all things common,

⁸ For ye are saved by grace, through faith; and this not of yourselves; it is God`s gift:

¹⁵ See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise, ¹⁶ redeeming the time, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord. ¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,

¹⁷ So if any one [be] in Christ, [there is] a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold all things have become new:
