¹⁸ And Jehovah Elohim said, It is not good that Man should be alone; I will make him a helpmate, his like. ¹⁹ And out of the ground Jehovah Elohim had formed every animal of the field and all fowl of the heavens, and brought [them] to Man, to see what he would call them; and whatever Man called each living soul, that was its name. ²⁰ And Man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, he found no helpmate, his like. ²¹ And Jehovah Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Man; and he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up flesh in its stead. ²² And Jehovah Elohim built the rib that he had taken from Man into a woman; and brought her to Man. ²³ And Man said, This time it is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: this shall be called Woman, because this was taken out of a man. ²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. ²⁵ And they were both naked, Man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

²⁸ But *I* say unto you, that every one who looks upon a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

² but on account of fornications, let each have his own wife, and each [woman] have her own husband.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strifes, jealousies, angers, contentions, disputes, schools of opinion, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revels, and things like these; as to which I tell you beforehand, even as I also have said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit God`s kingdom.

¹ Likewise, wives, [be] subject to your own husbands, that, even if any are disobedient to the word, they may be gained without [the] word by the conversation of the wives, ² having witnessed your pure conversation [carried out] in fear; ³ whose adorning let it not be that outward one of tressing of hair, and wearing gold, or putting on apparel; ⁴ but the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible [ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which in the sight of God is of great price. ⁵ For thus also the holy women who have hoped in God heretofore adorned themselves, being subject to their own husbands; ⁶ as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; whose children ye have become, doing good, and not fearing with any kind of consternation. ⁷ [Ye] husbands likewise, dwell with [them] according to knowledge, as with a weaker, [even] the female, vessel, giving [them] honour, as also fellow-heirs of [the] grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered. ⁸ Finally, [be] all of one mind, sympathising, full of brotherly love, tender hearted, humble minded; ⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing; but on the contrary, blessing [others], because ye have been called to this, that ye should inherit blessing. ¹⁰ For he that will love life and see good days, let him cause his tongue to cease from evil and his lips that they speak no guile. ¹¹ And let him avoid evil, and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it; ¹² because [the] eyes of [the] Lord [are] on [the] righteous, and his ears towards their supplications; but [the] face of [the] Lord [is] against them that do evil. ¹³ And who shall injure you if ye have become imitators of that which [is] good? ¹⁴ But if also ye should suffer for righteousness` sake, blessed [are ye]; but be not afraid of their fear, neither be troubled; ¹⁵ but sanctify [the] Lord the Christ in your hearts, and [be] always prepared to [give] an answer [to] every one that asks you to give an account of the hope that [is] in you, but with meekness and fear; ¹⁶ having a good conscience, that [as to that] in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may be ashamed who calumniate your good conversation in Christ. ¹⁷ For [it is] better, if the will of God should will it, to suffer [as] well-doers than [as] evildoers; ¹⁸ for Christ indeed has once suffered for sins, [the] just for [the] unjust, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in flesh, but made alive in [the] Spirit, ¹⁹ in which also going he preached to the spirits [which are] in prison, ²⁰ heretofore disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in [the] days of Noah while the ark was preparing, into which few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water: ²¹ which figure also now saves you, [even] baptism, not a putting away of [the] filth of flesh, but [the] demand as before God of a good conscience, by [the] resurrection of Jesus Christ, ²² who is at [the] right hand of God, gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being subjected to him.

³ For this is [the] will of God, [even] your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication; ⁴ that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honour, ⁵ (not in passionate desire, even as the nations who know not God,)

²⁶ For this reason God gave them up to vile lusts; for both their females changed the natural use into that contrary to nature; ²⁷ and in like manner the males also, leaving the natural use of the female, were inflamed in their lust towards one another; males with males working shame, and receiving in themselves the recompense of their error which was fit.

¹ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. ² And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. ³ And if I shall dole out all my goods in food, and if I deliver up my body that I may be burned, but have not love, I profit nothing. ⁴ Love has long patience, is kind; love is not emulous [of others]; love is not insolent and rash, is not puffed up, ⁵ does not behave in an unseemly manner, does not seek what is its own, is not quickly provoked, does not impute evil, ⁶ does not rejoice at iniquity but rejoices with the truth, ⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. ⁸ Love never fails; but whether prophecies, they shall be done away; or tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it shall be done away. ⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part: ¹⁰ but when that which is perfect has come, that which is in part shall be done away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I reasoned as a child; when I became a man, I had done with what belonged to the child. ¹² For we see now through a dim window obscurely, but then face to face; now I know partially, but then I shall know according as I also have been known. ¹³ And now abide faith, hope, love; these three things; and the greater of these [is] love.

¹⁹ Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

¹³ For *ye* have been called to liberty, brethren; only [do] not [turn] liberty into an opportunity to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

⁵ Put to death therefore your members which [are] upon the earth, fornication, uncleanness, vile passions, evil lust, and unbridled desire, which is idolatry.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us [our] sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

¹⁵ And did not one make [them]? and the remnant of the Spirit was his. And wherefore the one? He sought a seed of God. Take heed then to your spirit, and let none deal unfaithfully against the wife of his youth,

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another; because love is of God, and every one that loves has been begotten of God, and knows God. ⁸ He that loves not has not known God; for God is love.

¹⁸ Flee fornication. Every sin which a man may practise is without the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

⁴ [Let] marriage [be held] every way in honour, and the bed [be] undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers will God judge.

¹ But concerning the things of which ye have written [to me]: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman; ² but on account of fornications, let each have his own wife, and each [woman] have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render her due to the wife, and in like manner the wife to the husband. ⁴ The wife has not authority over her own body, but the husband: in like manner also the husband has not authority over his own body, but the wife. ⁵ Defraud not one another, unless, it may be, by consent for a time, that ye may devote yourselves to prayer, and again be together, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency. ⁶ But this I say, as consenting [to], not as commanding [it]. ⁷ Now I wish all men to be even as myself: but every one has his own gift of God: one man thus, and another thus. ⁸ But I say to the unmarried and to the widows, It is good for them that they remain even as I. ⁹ But if they have not control over themselves, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn. ¹⁰ But to the married I enjoin, not *I*, but the Lord, Let not wife be separated from husband; ¹¹ (but if also she shall have been separated, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband;) and let not husband leave wife. ¹² But as to the rest, *I* say, not the Lord, If any brother have an unbelieving wife, and *she* consent to dwell with him, let him not leave her. ¹³ And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to dwell with her, let her not leave [her] husband. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the brother; since [otherwise] indeed your children are unclean, but now they are holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbeliever go away, let them go away; a brother or a sister is not bound in such [cases], but God has called us in peace. ¹⁶ For what knowest thou, O wife, if thou shalt save thy husband? or what knowest thou, O husband, if thou shalt save thy wife? ¹⁷ However, as the Lord has divided to each, as God has called each, so let him walk; and thus I ordain in all the assemblies. ¹⁸ Has any one been called circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised: has any one been called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. ¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing; but keeping God`s commandments. <sup>20</sup> Let each abide in that calling in which he has been called. <sup>21</sup> Hast thou been called [being] a bondman, let it not concern thee; but and if thou canst become free, use [it] rather. <sup>22</sup> For the bondman that is called in [the] Lord is the Lord`s freedman; in like manner [also] the freeman being called is Christ`s bondman. <sup>23</sup> Ye have been bought with a price; do not be the bondmen of men. <sup>24</sup> Let each, wherein he is called, brethren, therein abide with God. <sup>25</sup> But concerning virgins, I have no commandment of [the] Lord; but I give my opinion, as having received mercy of [the] Lord to be faithful. <sup>26</sup> I think then that this is good, on account of the present necessity, that [it is] good for a man to remain so as he is. <sup>27</sup> Art thou bound to a wife? seek not to be loosed; art thou free from a wife? do not seek a wife. <sup>28</sup> But if thou shouldest also marry, thou hast not sinned; and if the virgin marry, they have not sinned: but such shall have tribulation in the flesh; but I spare you. <sup>29</sup> But this I say, brethren, the time is straitened. For the rest, that they who have wives, be as not having [any]: <sup>30</sup> and they that weep, as not weeping; and they that rejoice, as not rejoicing; and they that buy, as not possessing; <sup>31</sup> and they that use the world, as not disposing of it as their own; for the fashion of this world passes. <sup>32</sup> But I wish you to be without care. The unmarried cares for the things of the Lord, how he shall please the Lord; <sup>33</sup> but he that has married cares for the things of the world, how he shall please his wife. <sup>34</sup> There is a difference between the wife and the virgin. The unmarried cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but she that has married cares for the things of the world, how she shall please her husband. <sup>35</sup> But I say this for your own profit; not that I may set a snare before you, but for what [is] seemly, and waiting on the Lord without distraction. <sup>36</sup> But if any one think that he behaves unseemly to his virginity, if he be beyond the flower of his age, and so it must be, let him do what he will, he does not sin: let them marry. <sup>37</sup> But he who stands firm in his heart, having no need, but has authority over his own will, and has judged this in his heart to keep his own virginity, he does well. <sup>38</sup> So that he that marries himself does well; and he that does not marry does better. <sup>39</sup> A wife is bound for whatever time her husband lives; but if the husband be fallen asleep, she is free to be married to whom she will, only in [the] Lord. <sup>40</sup> But she is happier if she so remain, according to my judgment; but I think that *I* also have God`s Spirit.
