³ But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ. ⁴ Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. ⁵ But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her headit is the same as if her head were shaved. ⁶ For if a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, let her cover her head. ⁷ For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. ⁸ For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; ⁹ neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. ¹⁰ Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. ¹¹ In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. ¹² For as woman was made from man, so also man is born of woman. And all things are from God. ¹³ Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? ¹⁴ Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, ¹⁵ but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. ¹⁶ If anyone wants to be contentious, we have no other practice, nor do the churches of God.

² Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

¹ Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:

³ The older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to much wine, but they are to teach what is good, ⁴ so they can train the young women to love their husbands and children, ⁵ to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

¹¹ Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. ¹² I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

⁸ Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, and not fond of sordid gain; ⁹ they must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. ¹⁰ They must also first be tested; and then if they are beyond reproach, let them serve as deacons. ¹¹ The women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. ¹² Deacons must be the husband of one wife, and must manage their children and their households well. ¹³ For those who have served well as deacons gain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

⁹ I also want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and sensibly, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments,

³ Yes, and I ask you also, true yoke-fellow, to help these women who have struggled at my side in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

² that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she has need from you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself also.

²⁶ And he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

³ Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus,

¹² Deacons must be the husband of one wife, and must manage their children and their households well.

¹ I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, ² that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she has need from you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself also.

¹¹ The women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.
